‘Beauty and the Beast’ Season 3 Delayed to Summer 2015?
So it’s looking like the hopes for an early 2015 debut for Beauty and the Beast Season 3 are swirling down the tubes, unfortunately.
The CW has announced its January premiere dates, and Beauty and the Beast is nowhere to be found, meaning that the earliest possible time we might be able to see the third season of BATB is this summer, provided the show doesn’t land on the midseason schedule next to The Messengers and iZombie, although I’m not sure where it would fit unless some of the shows currently on the schedule end their seasons early. Naturally, this wouldn’t be the first time Beauty and the Beast got pushed back to a summer airing, since Season 2 was split at midseason, resuming in June of 2014.
To be more specific, the January return schedule is mostly keeping with the familiar: Mondays belong to The Originals and Jane the Virgin, Tuesdays will stick with The Flash and Supernatural, Wednesdays will have Arrow and The 100, Thursdays have The Vampire Diaries and Reign, and Fridays will have Hart of Dixie, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, and How Did They Do That? in a two-hour programming block. With a schedule this crowded, it’s somewhat understandable why The CW would hold off on Season 3.
However, I don’t necessarily view this as a bad thing. For one, summers are far less crowded with competition, and ratings expectations aren’t nearly as high, thus giving Beauty and the Beast a better shot at delivering a number that will satisfy executives at The CW. In addition, while the episode order hasn’t been bumped up or anything, I think the combination of a slimmer season and a longer development time will lead to a very focused, nuanced season, with very little extraneous plot to bog down the narrative. Sure, the wait for the new season will be a little bit longer, but this could still likely end up being a big positive for the show, and for viewers. So keep heart, Beasties! Optimism for 2015!
