Attention ‘Game of Thrones’ Fans: Here’s How You Can Have King Joffrey Hanged

Hey there, Game of Thrones fans. So yeah, I know you already know that Season 4 premieres on Sunday. But odds are, if you watch the show, you probably really hate King Joffrey. And if you hate King Joffrey, you probably want to see lousy things happen to him, no? Well, now you can actually be the one responsible for seeing the little blonde-haired hellion get his due.

Apparently, there exists a King Joffrey statue in a town square in Auckland, New Zealand, which is weird enough itself, but gets all the weirder when you consider that its sole purpose for existing is for encouraging all would-be Kingslayers.

Full details from an email received by The Mary Sue concerning the statue in question:

As the statue gains attention in real life and online, a large, medieval winch will be attached to the statue, with a rope around Joffrey’s neck, along with the appearance of the hashtag #bringdowntheking. From there, fans who’ve had enough of Joffrey’s nonsense can use the tag #bringdowntheking, and with each use of it, the rope will pull tighter around Joffrey’s head. All interested parties should head to to see live webcams of all the action, see and send their own messages, as well as stay abreast of all the latest news and developments.

Yeah, kind of unsettling. Especially when you consider Joffrey is technically just a kid. But at least it’s not implied child violence for its own sake. The statue is part of a promotion for Game of Thrones Season 4 on SKY TV New Zealand, so I wouldn’t expect it to remain up much longer. That said, if New Zealand ever gets a Walder Frey statue I can bludgeon, I’d love to get an email about that.
