‘America’s Got Talent 10’ Live Results #2: Seven Acts Advance to Semifinals (VIDEO)

Welcome to the live blog and recap of America’s Got Talent 10, “Live Results 2”! Judges Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howard Stern are back alongside host Nick Cannon as we continue the search for America’s million dollar act!

Last night’s live show was a mixed bag, with some obvious shoo-ins for the semifinals mixed in with some hit-or-miss acts. But with seven spots open, it’s anyone’s guess who will make it into the semifinals!

But what do readers think?

Well, according to our official poll, the seven acts advancing to the semifinals are predicted to be (from most votes to least): Sharon Irving, Derek Hughes, Uzeyer Novruzov, The CraigLewis Band, Freckled Sky, Arielle Baril, Ira Fennelbloom and 3 Shades of Blue. But it isn’t too late to vote, so head on over and add your prediction to the poll!

Keep it locked right here as I’ll be updating with commentary and videos as the night rolls on!

Let’s get this show on the road!

-We get a full recap of last night’s show in montage form, which basically takes the place of those old AGT Cutdown shows that basically provide a one-hour version of the two-hour show prior to the results. Ultimately, I like it much better this way.

-After the video, we see a quick short of Howie and Mel B playing Snap. But we quickly transition to our first results…

-Nick Cannon and the 12 acts are onstage, and he reveals the three acts that came in 6th, 7th and 8th, and are on-the-bubble. They are…

3 Shades of Blue
Freckled Sky

America has a half hour to vote and save one of these three acts using the Dunkin’ Donuts Save. The judges will save another act, and the third will, unfortunately, be going home. I’m a bit surprised about 3 Shades of Blue being at risk, but I still expect them to go through, whether they have to be saved by America or the judges. That said, I do think it’d be interesting if the judges had to pick between 3 Shades of Blue and Freckled Sky, since Howard has championed both those acts extensively.

-Back from break, and we hang out backstage with popular AGT alums Emily West and William Close, who will be performing together later. We then cut to video of the Dunkin’ Domuts Lounge party, with Heidi learning dance moves from DM Nation, congratulating Arielle Baril, chastising Uzeyer for scaring her, and getting close with Ira and Miriam. It’s a cute video, and makes me super hungry for donuts now.

-The on-screen graphic shows an INCREDIBLY tight race between the three on-the-bubble acts, as Ira and Freckled Sky are tied at 33% while 3 Shades of Blue leads with 34%. Anyway, Nick calls Uzeyer and Damone Rippy forward. Only one can go through…

UZEYER NOVRUZOV advances to the semifinals!

DAMONE RIPPY is eliminated from AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 10!

-Mel B congratulates Uzeyer, but asks if he’s really serious about ditching the ladder for the semifinals. He says he’ll bring back the ladder if people really want him to, and suddenly, I’m mad that Mel B might have talked Uzeyer out of doing something different for once. Just let the guy work! Still, she encourages whatever he plans on doing in the next round, so there’s still hope Uzeyer will bring a new twist to his act in the semifinals. I’m happy about this result.

-Arielle Baril and DM Nation are called forth for the next result…

ARIELLE BARIL advances to the semifinals!

DM NATION is eliminated from AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 10!

-An obvious result, although I’ll be sad to see DM Nation go. Heidi congratulates her Golden Buzzer act, as Arielle seems really flustered and overjoyed to the point of surprise, despite how obvious it was that she would be advancing. I find that adorable.

-So the judges travel to Madame Tussauds in New York City to prank unsuspecting fans by pretending to be wax statues before coming to life before their eyes. Mel B and Heidi tease Howie about not having his own statue in the museum, although he does have his own bobblehead doll, which he had to pose for in a three-hour session. I kind of love this segment, as people pose with Heidi and Mel B behind them, only for Heidi and Mel B to suddenly make hand signs as the flash goes off, confusing the fans, who don’t know how the statues changed poses in the final photo. Heidi and Mel B start touching the patrons, freaking them out. In separate bits, Heidi and Howie fall over, scaring people and nearly getting one guy fake arrested. In another instance, Howie freaks a person out by coming to life and hitting his buzzer. In the final bit, one little boy is freaked out by Heidi and Mel B moving in to kiss him on the cheek. When they try to get a make-up photo with the boy and his father, Howie comes to life and photobombs the pic. This was a really fun little segment. Back in the studio, Howie talks about how fun it was to get up to “tomfoolery” with friends, then falls over again while Nick is introducing the next act, in a humorous moment (particularly when Mel B starts hitting him to try and bring him back to life).

Not only was this segment probably my favorite throwaway of the season so far, it’s also strangely relevant, given how Madame Tussauds is in the news over the whole Nicki Minaj fiasco.

-William Close is here to play his awesome Earth Harp, backing up last year’s runner-up, Emily West, and accompanying the orchestra playing with her. She sings “Nights In White Satin” by Moody Blues, and it’s one of the most sensational singing performances I’ve seen on the AGT stage. Just gorgeous, from the vocal to the arrangement and the Earth Harp. I absolutely loved this, and can’t wait for the video to be released online so I can watch it again. Seriously, I would buy the hell out of this version of the song. After the performance, Nick plugs Emily appearing on the AGT All-Stars Live Tour. Sounds like it’ll probably be a hell of a show.

-Nick calls Sharon Irving, The CraigLewis Band and Animation Crew are called to the stage. He doesn’t say how many of these acts are going through, but I would imagine two of them are. Nick reads the first result…

THE CRAIGLEWIS BAND advances to the semifinals!

Nick tells Sharon Irving and Animation Crew to stay put, so one more will definitely be going through. The guys thank America for putting them through, while Howard notes that these guys deserve credit for tweaking their act, becoming more visually interesting and adding a different tone and quality to their act (i.e., less “screeching” and “not going for each and every high note”).

-So it’s now between Sharon Irving and Animation Crew. Nick reads the result…

SHARON IRVING advances to the semifinals!

Sharon breaks down in tears after hearing the news, and thanks America for supporting her, saying this is more than a hobby for her. She hopes to continue inspiring America. For her part, Mel B says she believes Sharon just might win this competition, and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised. That said, America has been gravitating away from singing acts and giving it to mixed media performers (Kenichi Ibina) and magicians (Mat Franco), so maybe we could have an upset on the horizon.

-Nick calls Myq Kaplan and Derek Hughes forward. One will go through, the other will go home…

DEREK HUGHES advances to the semifinals!

MYQ KAPLAN is eliminated from AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 10!

Myq is eliminated, but I expect one of the judges to bring him back for the semifinals as a wildcard, assuming we’re still doing semifinal wildcards this year. Nick asks Derek how it feels, and he says it feels great. Howie then congratulates himself for getting this right, before congratulating Derek on all his success. He says that good things happen to good people, and this is very good for Derek. I’m glad Derek went through. I wish we had more magicians like him in this competition, honestly. Magic is my favorite category.

-Ira, 3 Shades of Blue, and Freckled Sky are onstage, as Nick announces that less than 500 votes separated the top two acts. This is madness!

America saves IRA FENNELBLOOM!

Ira blowing kisses to America is just precious. Ira and Miriam gush about the result, while Heidi congratulates them for making it through. This result makes me stupidly happy. Ira is my guilty pleasure, and while I don’t expect him to advance past the semifinals, it’s been a joy watching him get this far at all.

-It all comes down to Freckled Sky and 3 Shades of Blue. The judges make their choices…

Mel B congratulates both acts for making it this far. She says she likes 3 Shades of Blue, but felt the vocals were lacking. She then says she likes Freckled Sky, but thought they weren’t as exciting last night. So she makes her pick…

MEL B votes to save 3 SHADES OF BLUE!

Howie feels there’s strategy in winning this, and feels 3 Shades of Blue needs to bring more to the competition. Meanwhile, he feels Freckled Sky slipped up last night and didn’t deliver like they should have.

Howard loves both acts, but suddenly turns on Freckled Sky, saying they went “artsy fartsy” and basically just stood around. He tells 3 Shades of Blue they need to rock harder, but basically implies it’s too damn late for Freckled Sky, saying they disappointed him.

Heidi’s vote isn’t needed. With a three vote judgment…

3 SHADES OF BLUE advances to the semifinals!

FRECKLED SKY is eliminated from AMERICA’S GOT TALENT 10!

This was the right choice, in my opinion, although I thought Howard was WAY too harsh on Freckled Sky. That was just so uncalled for, particularly since the act was still good, it just wasn’t as spectacular as their audition. Anyway, this is a pretty good group overall, as all seven acts that went through deserved to, in my opinion.

To recap, the seven acts advancing to the semifinals are…

Uzeyer Novruzov
Arielle Baril
The CraigLewis Band
Sharon Irving
Derek Hughes
Ira Fennelbloom (America’s save!)
3 Shades of Blue (Judges’ save!)

As for next week’s show, the 12 acts performing for your votes will be…

Alicia Michilli, Singer
Benjamin Yonattan, Dancer
Chapkis Dance Family, Dance Group
DADitude!, Dance Group
Daniella Mass, Opera Singer
Freelusion Dance Company, Videomapping Dance Group
Gary Vider, Stand-up Comedian
Metal Mulisha Fitz’s Army, Motocross Team
Mountain Faith Band, Bluegrass Band
Oz Pearlman, Mentalist
Selected of God Choir, Gospel Choir
Stevie Starr, Regurgitator

Lots of singers and dancers, so the voting should be pretty close across the board, assuming dancing and singing acts split votes with each other. I’m excited though, because this is a really strong lineup of talent. Seriously, I can’t WAIT until next Tuesday!

-That’s a wrap! What did you think of tonight’s results? Did the right acts go through? Sound off in the comments!

Until next week, thanks for reading!
