Jennifer Hudson Debuts ‘The Color Purple’ Music Video
Jennifer Hudson is looking to check another letter off her EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) scorecard: the Grammy winner, Oscar winner, and overall world-class talent is poised to make her Broadway debut in The Color Purple, following in the footsteps of American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino. However, unlike the version Fantasia starred in, the new John Doyle-directed production will feature a stripped-down production with a very minimal set. The focus will be on the actors, and, by extension, the music.
In promoting her role as Shug Avery in the classic story, J-Hud has released a music video for the song “The Color Purple”, a duet with co-star Cynthia Erivo, who plays Celie in the new production. It’s an emotional song, and it features a behind-the-scenes look at the show, not just in the recording studio but on the stage as well. This is just one element of what’s shaping up to be one hell of a Broadway show. Watch the music video for “The Color Purple” below:
