Carrie Underwood to Headline New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2016
Carrie Underwood has officially made her New Year’s Eve plans!
The American Idol winner and multi-platinum country star will headline Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2016 with Ryan Seacrest. Carrie will perform several of her hit songs for the crowd of roughly one million fans in Times Square, taking the stage moments before the ball drops. This is one of the bigger gigs in music each year, so this is huge for Carrie, particularly since she just recently released her fifth album, Storyteller. For someone who’s spent a combined 38 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart over the course of her career, the visibility of this gig could propel her to even further notoriety.
“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be than New York’s Times Square, one of the most magical places in the world, to ring in the New Year,” Carrie said in a statement. “It’s going to be a memorable night, and I can’t wait to celebrate with the world!”
“The first time I heard Carrie sing, I knew she would be a superstar, and each year she continues to dominate the charts,” said host and executive producer Ryan Seacrest. “I can’t wait to see her rock Times Square and ring in 2016 as our headliner.”
No word on which other musical acts will join Carrie Underwood in the lineup, but it’s expected more performers will be announced in the weeks to come. For now, we just know Jenny McCarthy will be reporting live from Times Square while Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie will host the Billboard Hollywood Party.
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2016 with Ryan Seacrest will air live from Times Square on Thursday, December 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
