American Idol 2016 Top 5 Song Spoilers + Elimination Format
Tonight, the Top 5 compete on American Idol 2016, as one singer is eliminated from the Bottom 2. But what are the song spoilers for the Fans’ Choice Theme, and how will the contestant be eliminated this week?
Well, despite reports to the contrary released immediately after last week’s show, it turns out the judges will STILL be the ones choosing which singer to eliminate. However, according to Scott Borchetta, they’ll be picking from the Bottom 2 rather than the Bottom 3. Oh, and the other twist: although the Idols will be singing two songs this week, we will find out the results after the FIRST ROUND of performances. This means one person will be eliminated halfway through the show, as the final five perform in round two for your votes. But what will the contestants be singing? Well, we only have spoilers for the first set of songs, but from what we’ve seen, tonight could either be amazing or a complete disaster for some of these contestants. Which means an interesting show, if nothing else. Check out the song spoilers below:
La’Porsha Renae – “No More Drama” by Mary J. Blige
Dalton Rapattoni – “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel
Sonika Vaid – “Clarity” by Zedd featuring Foxes
Tristan McIntosh – “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi
MacKenzie Bourg – “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson
Trent Harmon – “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
What the HELL is that song choice for Tristan? Did America really pick that? I get that these are song choices picked from the suggestions the show solicited from fans on Twitter. But what fans were suggesting Bon Jovi for this year’s country artist? I’m seriously hoping she’s able to change up the arrangement. Otherwise, this could be a mess. By the same token, I’m interested to see what Dalton, MacKenzie and Trent do with their songs, because those all seem outside those artists’ respective wheelhouses. These song choices actually have me pretty intrigued over tonight’s show, far more so than I was going in. Granted, I’m still not crazy about the judges having all of the power still (you know, FOX, you should just bring back The X Factor if you love its format so much), but I wonder how different the results would really have been if we’d just gone with America’s vote. On the one hand, Avalon would probably still be gone. But, on the other hand, we might still have Olivia. I guess we’ll see how these results play out tonight.
But what do you think of the song choices and the elimination format? Sound off in the comments!
