Adele On New Album: ‘I’m Making Up With Myself. Making Up for Lost Time’

Adele is finally back with new music, and she’s now revealing why it’s been so long (nearly five years, to be exact).

Adele offered a surprise update on her social media accounts regarding her upcoming third album. The record will reportedly “explore her journey to adulthood and self-acceptance.”

“My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record,” the singer wrote in the update. “I’m making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up with everything I ever did and never did.”

The statement posted to her social media accounts basically reads as an apology to fans, as Adele explains that “life happened” in between her last album and now. Read Adele’s full statement below:

It’s understandable why Adele has been on hiatus for as long as she has been. Over the past four and a half years, she swept the Grammys for her sophomore album, 21, which sold 11 million copies in the U.S. alone to become the best-selling album of the decade. She also won an Oscar for Skyfall, her theme song to the James Bond movie of the same name. And, oh yeah, she had a baby with husband Simon Konecki, a son named Angelo James Konecki. In short, a lot has happened in Adele’s life, presumably even things the media never heard about, so she’s likely got tons of material for this album. I can’t wait to finally hear this.
