2016 Honda Civic Sedan Unveiled for North America! (PHOTOS)
Honda is coming for its share of the North American market with a major reveal.
The 2016 Honda Civic Sedan has finally been unveiled for North America. The tenth generation of the Honda Civic Sedan is being promoted as the “most ambitious remake of the Civic ever,” due in large part to the wide variety of body styles that will be made available to North American consumers.
“The new Civic really is the embodiment of our global design team’s goal of styling a dramatic form that follows and speaks to the dynamic function of this ambitious redesign,” said Jarad Hall, Senior Exterior Designer and project leader of the Civic Sedan, Honda R&D Americas. “The low and wide proportions, with the wheels pushed to the outmost corners, emphasize the Civic’s dynamic handling prowess and give the car a crouched and muscular look, like a tiger ready to pounce.”
But underneath the surface level aesthetic — which is actually quite striking, in a “business meeting at a fancy restaurant” sort of way — is a series of engineering implementations that intend to put this Civic above the rest. Consumers have the choice between a naturally-aspirated 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine or the turbocharged 1.5 liter inline-four, the latter of which is far more powerful than anything we North Americans have ever gotten before. In addition, the 2016 Honda Civic Sedan comes standard with the Honda Sensing safety platform, which includes Collision Mitigation Braking, and Road Departure Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow. Also coming standard is a “reconfigurable new centre console” with 7.2 liters of secure storage capacity, as well as a seven-inch HD touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Additional specs and details, such as the specifics on what transmission this thing will utilize, “will be announced closer to launch”. Regardless, this is not only the most ambitious Honda Civic, it’s also the most versatile.
