Musically inclined New Girl Zooey Deschanel is about to hit the bright lights of Broadway in Coal Miner’s Daughter! Last night, during a Grand Ole Opry performance, Country music legend Loretta Lynn beckoned the doe-eyed girl on stage to ask her to join the production. As of right now, it is still in the early stage with no creative team attached or workshop dates set.
Also, the two performed a lovely rendition of the hit song “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” In the show, Deschanel will perform this, “You Ain’t Woman Enough to Take My Man,” “You’re Looking at Country,” and “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl.”
According to the AP, before inviting her onstage, Lynn said:
“I have a friend here tonight. I don’t know if ya’ll remember when Sissy Spacek was with me. I brought her out here with me. She about fainted. We both fainted. She went on to do the ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter,’ and you know from there. Well, there’s a little girl back stage that’s going to do the play of ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ on Broadway. Zooey, where you at honey?”
As expected, Deschanel graciously accepted. She later tweeted:
Loretta Lynn asked me to do “coal miner’s daughter” on broadway! I said YES! instagr.am/p/KeHjbxrjj2/

The show will be produced by Fox Theatricals and Scott Sanders Productions — who are also behind Legally Blonde, The Color Purple and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
How exciting is this? Do you think she’ll make a good Loretta?
