Zayn Malik Cancels Dubai Performance Due To Anxiety
Zayn Malik is continuing to battle the anxiety issues that have plagued his solo career since leaving One Direction.
In a candid post to social media, Zayn announced his decision to cancel his Dubai show, scheduled for October 7, due to his “extreme anxiety around major live solo performances”. Naturally, going from performing with four other guys to suddenly performing alone has taken its toll on Zayn, perhaps in ways he wasn’t even expecting when he initially made the decision to leave One Direction. Being a part of a group is vastly different from being the sole headliner. Still, this has to be disappointing to his fans. Read his note below:
I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances. I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October.
I am assured that all tickets will be refunded.
I am truly sorry to disappoint you. I hope to see you all soon.
Thank you to all my fans who support me globally.
With love and respect always,
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Zayn has left fans hanging due to anxiety, as he canceled a performance earlier this summer in the UK for similar reasons.
Of course, I can’t judge Zayn, because I suffer from extreme anxiety myself. More than anything, I just feel bad for the guy. Sure, he pursued this career, but anxiety is something that comes and goes, and it can be physically debilitating every bit as much as it is psychologically debilitating. That said, this is going to do major damage to his career. Fewer people will buy tickets to see him if they don’t feel they can trust him to actually perform when the day comes. It’s an unfortunate situation. Honestly, he should just take a break from performing altogether and focus on overcoming his anxiety full-time. At this point, it’s the only real way he can salvage his career, short of rejoining One Direction or something. And that option seems off the table with their indefinite hiatus. Either way, I hope Zayn gets well. It’s a serious struggle, and it takes a lot of strength and support to be able to push through it. Hang in there, man!
