The X Factor USA 2013 – Power Rankings – Groups
With the first live shows of The X Factor USA 2013 right around the corner, we’re going to be taking a look at the 16 acts who have made it through to live shows, category-by-category! Gabe took care of the Girls, and now I’m going to be offer my Power Rankings for the Groups! Let’s get to it!
1. Restless Road
It’s hard to imagine these guys not going all the way, after the success of country act Tate Stevens last season. These guys are young, good-looking, relevant country singers for whom there’s a fairly large gap in the market. Are their vocals as tight as they should/could be? Probably not. But they have all the potential in the world to not only get to the end, but to actually deserve to be there. Colton Pack, Zach Beeken, and Andrew Scholz were decent enough singers on their own, but together, they’re something far greater than they might otherwise have been individually. Of the groups, they’re Simon’s best shot at the win.
2. Alex & Sierra
It’ll probably be a bit controversial putting these two ahead of either of the two girl groups in Simon’s category, but the buzz around Alex & Sierra makes it hard to believe that these two won’t deliver once live shows kick off. Maybe that’s a bit of an overestimation of their abilities, especially since they’re prone to the same nerves and vocal unevenness of some of the other acts in the competition. But they have an engaging stage presence to go with their offstage likability, as if these two truly don’t know just what they have between them. Of all the acts in this category, Alex & Sierra are the group I’m most excited to see on the live shows.
3. RoXxy Montana
I was a bit skeptical of the girls of RoXxy Montana, who I felt were overpraised in their audition. But they absolutely delivered in the Four Chair Challenge, delivering on all the promise Simon claimed to have seen in them. I think these girls are capable of more than even they’re aware of, between their killer harmonies and their swaggering stage presence. These three girls have the potential to really surprise people in this competition. If America is ready for a new girl group, they could end up going as far as last year’s third-place finisher, Fifth Harmony. And if they keep delivering at a high level, who knows? They could stand to go even farther.
4. Sweet Suspense
I genuinely like this act, but I think they’re here more on their potential than on anything they’ve shown thus far. But their potential really is huge. It’s a stacked category, sure, and these girls are likely battling RoXxy Montana for a spot in Simon’s final three, but they’ve already shown they have the vocal prowess to make it happen, in addition to their generally endearing personalities. You could probably make an argument for Celine Polenghi, Millie Thrasher, and Summer Reign deserving to advance in the Girls category, but I think they’re a much stronger act now. They just come across as genuinely likable girls, and their performance ability makes them an easy act to get behind. But can they actually secure a spot in the top 12 with the competition being as thick as it is?
What do you think? How would you rank these four groups? Sound off in the comments!
