For what it’s worth, Louis reveals he would have sent home Abi.

It was her time, but I still feel awful for Abi, as she was clearly the most upset of any contestant to be eliminated so far. When Sharon was saying how she wished Abi had been as passionate in past performances as she’d been in her sing-off, you could clearly see Abi tearfully mouth the words, “I’ve always been passionate.” I think, more than any other act in the competition, Abi was hurt by all the esoteric themes the show has been doing this season, as she tends to have an easier time relating to and finding the passion in a contemporary song than she does with older tunes.

On the plus side, by the time her farewell package has finished airing (which she cries nearly the entire way through), she gives us a disarmingly gorgeous little smile.

You may not have been perfect, but I still love ya, Abi.

Thoughts

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’m completely over Sam Callahan still being here. I get why he still is, but I find it profoundly obnoxious regardless. With that said, I get that being in the bottom 2 is upsetting, but Hannah needs to be a bit more graceful about it if she lands there again. I’m getting serious Misha B vibes from her, and while Misha B’s attitude was partially what made her so compelling, I can’t say the same about Hannah. Shaking your head “no” and scowling at the grave injustice of landing in the bottom 2 isn’t going to win you any new fans, even if you didn’t deserve to be in the bottom 2 in the first place (although I think her performance last night was severely overrated by the judges).

So what do you think about the final 7? Who should have been the bottom 2, if not these two? Sound off in the comments!

    great recap as always nick.

i totally agree with hannah's negative vibes contributing to (ongoing) lack of popularity/likeability.

girl looks like she's getting beaten down by life everyday, and wants everyone to know it.

@rockers Yeah I'm beginning to sense that too. I like her but there does seem to have problem connecting with the public. She is a great singer no doubt about that but that is a problem if she still getting in the bottom each week, especially over Sam .

@rockers Thank you! And that's a fantastic way of putting it, "she's getting beaten down by life everyday, and wants everyone to know it."

@takakupo The performances were really rough this week, for me. Lol, Tamera's was the only one I really liked, but it was just in comparison to the rest.

What did you think of the performances? And do you think there is any way of stalling the inevitable? We all know Hannah won't win but do you think there's a chance for her to land in the top 4 or 5 where I feel like she should be

@elementalman Ohhh I gotcha. Well, in terms of the sing-off, I preferred Abi, but that was more of a personal preference. I've never liked Hannah all that much. With that said, I can't pretend like she didn't win that sing off. That was a great vocal from Hannah.

I like Luke! But I prefer Tamara for the finale. I get that she looks like a star and has a great voice but she gives me nothing more than that. And even though I love your in depth opinion on yesterday's performances I was asking what you thought about the survival song performances. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

@elementalman I really wasn't all that crazy about this week, actually, which is surprising since Big Band has always been one of my favorite themes in any singing competition.

I think the judges have been overrating Rough Copy for at least three weeks now, and I think they've all but given up on criticizing Sam Callahan, for fear that their objections will simply galvanize his fanbase. Luke is good, but he's pretty much a more wholesome Frankie Cocozza, to me. And while I like Tamera, her bottom 2 appearance clearly rattled her, causing her to come across as trying way too hard.

This usually happens when a contestant makes a surprise bottom 2 appearance, as Kingsland Road lost ALL of their confidence after they first landed in the bottom 2, and it made every performance after seem just so desperate. The only standouts to me were Nicholas and Sam Bailey, and they're really the only two people I'm willing to call for the final three. I have no idea who the third act will be, and I suppose Hannah could theoretically make it there if she can lighten up on the seriousness (and maybe stop making such weird faces at the end of all of her performances each Saturday), but if I had to guess, I'd say either Luke or Rough Copy joins Nicholas and Sam in the final.
