Here is the recap and results video for The X Factor Australia Live Show 8 on October 14, 2013.
One judge becomes the first to be knocked out of the competition!
The Top 5 sing “Impossible”
James Arthur sings “You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You”
(I LOVE THIS!)
DJ Havana Brown sings “Warrior”
THIRD D3GREE and Jiordan Tolli
Jiordan Tolli sings “Young and Beautiful” / THIRD D3GREE sings “Thrift Shop”
First off, Jiordan singing along with “Thrift Shop” was adorable, and though this has nothing to do with anything, she’s looking more like Katy Perry by the day. But most importantly, I loved this sing-off, as both acts brought something really different to their performances. I’d been hoping Jiordan would sing Lana Del Rey at some point, and THIRD D3GREE singing Macklemore and Ryan Lewis seems like such an obvious choice I’m surprised they didn’t do it sooner. These contestants are infinitely better at picking their own songs than their mentors.
Redfoo sends home THIRD D3GREE
Dannii Minogue sends home Jiordan Tolli
Natalie Bassingthwaighte sends home Jiordan Tolli
Ronan Keating sends home THIRD D3GREE
And so we refer to the earlier public vote. Luke is handed the envelope and he reads the results…
JIORDAN TOLLI is eliminated from The X Factor Australia
Well, it was clear to me three weeks ago, but I still thought there might possibly be an upset along the way…but now it’s certainly set in stone: there’s nothing that will stop the Dami/Taylor/Jai final. But honestly? I don’t mind that grouping. As much as I love both acts, this just felt like the right bottom 2. Sure, Dami wasn’t at her best, and Jai might have been a bit overrated, but I just couldn’t imagine either act landing in the bottom 2, and Taylor gave a performance I thought was one of his best of the series. So this was basically the only bottom 2 we were going to get. With that said, I’ll miss Jiordan a lot, and wonder what could have been had the Girls been assigned to a different mentor.
Jiordan just wasn’t getting the right song choices with any regularity whatsoever, and in many cases it was the result of Redfoo overthinking the problem and giving her something needlessly over-the-top when all Jiordan really needed to do was sing. By the end of her run, Jiordan was so far away from what she’d been that she hardly seemed recognizable anymore as the girl who auditioned. However, one positive is that this overly theatrical approach allowed us to see her personality a bit more than we might have otherwise. And if nothing else, it’s a great personality to get to spend time with, so I’m glad we got to have Jiordan for as long as we did.
What do you think of these results? Did the right act go home? And can anything prevent a Dami/Taylor/Jai finale? Sound off in the comments!
