The X Factor Australia – Recap and Results – Live Show 8 – 10/14/2013 – Full Video
Here is the recap and results video for The X Factor Australia Live Show 8 on October 14, 2013.
One judge becomes the first to be knocked out of the competition!
The Top 5 sing “Impossible”
James Arthur sings “You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You”
(I LOVE THIS!)
DJ Havana Brown sings “Warrior”
THIRD D3GREE and Jiordan Tolli
Jiordan Tolli sings “Young and Beautiful” / THIRD D3GREE sings “Thrift Shop”
First off, Jiordan singing along with “Thrift Shop” was adorable, and though this has nothing to do with anything, she’s looking more like Katy Perry by the day. But most importantly, I loved this sing-off, as both acts brought something really different to their performances. I’d been hoping Jiordan would sing Lana Del Rey at some point, and THIRD D3GREE singing Macklemore and Ryan Lewis seems like such an obvious choice I’m surprised they didn’t do it sooner. These contestants are infinitely better at picking their own songs than their mentors.
Redfoo sends home THIRD D3GREE
Dannii Minogue sends home Jiordan Tolli
Natalie Bassingthwaighte sends home Jiordan Tolli
Ronan Keating sends home THIRD D3GREE
And so we refer to the earlier public vote. Luke is handed the envelope and he reads the results…
JIORDAN TOLLI is eliminated from The X Factor Australia
Well, it was clear to me three weeks ago, but I still thought there might possibly be an upset along the way…but now it’s certainly set in stone: there’s nothing that will stop the Dami/Taylor/Jai final. But honestly? I don’t mind that grouping. As much as I love both acts, this just felt like the right bottom 2. Sure, Dami wasn’t at her best, and Jai might have been a bit overrated, but I just couldn’t imagine either act landing in the bottom 2, and Taylor gave a performance I thought was one of his best of the series. So this was basically the only bottom 2 we were going to get. With that said, I’ll miss Jiordan a lot, and wonder what could have been had the Girls been assigned to a different mentor.
Jiordan just wasn’t getting the right song choices with any regularity whatsoever, and in many cases it was the result of Redfoo overthinking the problem and giving her something needlessly over-the-top when all Jiordan really needed to do was sing. By the end of her run, Jiordan was so far away from what she’d been that she hardly seemed recognizable anymore as the girl who auditioned. However, one positive is that this overly theatrical approach allowed us to see her personality a bit more than we might have otherwise. And if nothing else, it’s a great personality to get to spend time with, so I’m glad we got to have Jiordan for as long as we did.
What do you think of these results? Did the right act go home? And can anything prevent a Dami/Taylor/Jai finale? Sound off in the comments!
Got Something to Add?
I would have preferred Taylor or Jai leaving. I've never really warmed up to Taylor and Jai's just not there yet IMO. He's grown a lot as a performer but I can say the same about everyone else.
I'd much rather watch 3rd Degree and Dami in a finale than Jai and Taylor. I just like a little more 'performance' in my performance, know what I mean? Sometimes 3rd Degree are a hot mess, but it's a fun-to-watch-hot-mess. Sorry to see Jiordan go, but her sing off performance was lovely. I hope we'll hear more from her in the future.
I thought this sing off was the best Jiordan's been in a LONNNG time. She was awesome week 2 and 3 and then just started a downward spiral into crap thanks to poor song choice. The whole Lana Del Ray is where she belongs and thats whats marketable right now so I think if she plays her cards right she could make something of herself.
I hope Third Degree can cause an upset because Jacinta is just too FREAKIN good. She really should have been a solo act because shes honestly better than Dami. She can sing AND dance and shes so fierce. With every single performance she is fighting to win and I love that. And Third Degree actually have a chance of being successful in the mainstream as well.
Taylor/Jai would just win and fall by the wayside like so many of the "random white guy" winners that these reality shows produce. James Arthur is the only successful one right now and thats because hes recent and he actually has a different vibe from the rest.
If were goin on consistancy though Dami has to have it in the bag. Like its not even close. They tried to pretend like her performance this week was the worst thing ever when it was still better than everything else. Idk how they'll manage her but they could do something in the "Clarity" vain with her and push her into the techno/ballad market to be successful post show.
I think X Factor Australia consistantly has the best/more marketable talent make it near the end of the season in comparison to Uk and US. I mean Britney Spears-esque and very mainstream Samantha Jade won last season and theres no way in heck that'd ever happen on the other shows.
well, he's the worst judge ever. But I still can't see why people like Jai. He isn't like Carly or Rachel Crow. He'sjust cute and his voice is very limited.
I would love it if there were an upset next week with Jai leaving in fourth. But Third Degree really need to knock it out of the park if they ever wanna make it in the finale.
@Klope62 People singing for their lives often give the best performances of the season....Hope we hear more from her.
@aryehgizbar Jiordan would have slayed if she was under Guy. She could sing, she's current and you definitely see her place in the market. When Nat can choose a better song for your act than you, you should take that as a hint to go.
