WWE Star Curtis Axel Frustrated Over Being Drafted Last

Former Intercontinental champion Curtis Axel was the final pick in last week’s WWE Draft, and that fact clearly frustrated him, to say the least. After all, this is a guy who’s such a dependable, effortlessly smooth in-ring talent that part-time guys like The Rock and Brock Lesnar give him a call to help them get back in ring shape. So why the late draft pick?

Well, outside of the Axelmania bit from last year, and his reemergence as one third of the Social Outcasts, Axel hasn’t been doing a whole lot. It’s kind of a shame, actually, because you’d think the son of the late, great Curt Hennig wouldn’t have his heritage shunted off to the side. Of course, you could probably make the argument that Axel wasn’t all that thrilling when he did get his Intercontinental title push in 2013. But did WWE really even try with him at all? Are they even trying with him now? This seems to be the basis of Axel’s frustrations, as he vented on Twitter last night:

I still don’t get why WWE won’t just let the guy be Joe Hennig. When you have someone with that sort of pedigree, you don’t hide it under names like Michael McGillicutty or Curtis Axel. And yeah, I get that “Curtis Axel” is a tribute to his father (Curt Hennig) and his grandfather (Larry “The Axe” Hennig), but I feel like there’s a ton of potential there in just letting Joe Hennig be himself. Hell, he cut a terrific promo earlier this year that virtually no one saw, about making his father proud and winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania. I’d love to see THAT guy on my TV.

But what do you think about Axel’s rant? Does he have a point about being overlooked? Sound off in the comments!
