WWE Smackdown Spoilers for USA Network Premiere on 01/07/2016

WWE Smackdown leaves Syfy and premieres on USA Network this Thursday, January 7, 2016. The show, taped on Tuesday night from Laredo, Texas, featured an Intercontinental title rematch between champion Dean Ambrose and former champion Kevin Owens, in addition to a Divas title match between champion Charlotte and former best friend Becky Lynch.

But that’s not all, as the USA Network premiere is also the first WWE show for new Smackdown lead announcer Mauro Ranallo, as well as the official Smackdown return for John Cena.

WWE SMACKDOWN SPOILERS – 01/07/2016:

John Cena came out and issued a challenge to Alberto Del Rio for the U.S. title, coming off the finish of their Raw match last week. Del Rio refused to give Cena another title match.

Kalisto pinned Del Rio in a non-title match. Said to be really good.

The Miz had a Miz TV segment. The New Day came out and they started complaining about Chris Jericho. Dolph Ziggler then came out and was backed up by Goldust, R-Truth and Neville.

This led to an eight-man tag where Ziggler & Goldust & R-Truth & Neville beat The New Day & Miz.

Charlotte beat Becky Lynch to retain the Divas title due to outside help from her father.

Dean Ambrose went to a double count out to retain the IC title in a match with Kevin Owens.

Looks like a decent show, for the most part. I didn’t really expect a finish for Ambrose/Owens, since that would leave them short a match for the Royal Rumble. That said, I was definitely surprised by the big win for Kalisto. It’s a shame Sin Cara is injured, but this could be great for Kalisto’s career, since I think WWE could really have something here with him. They’ve been trying for ages to create the next Rey Mysterio-caliber Latino star, and Kalisto could be that guy, provided Vince McMahon can get past his size enough to book him seriously.

If nothing else, I think Kalisto could have some incredible matches with AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura after they get to WWE.
