WWE Buries Paige Over Drug Test Lies On Social Media
The feud between WWE and Paige has officially gone public, as the company is burying the former two-time Divas champion over comments she and her family made on social media related to her recent second Wellness Policy failure.
After being suspended for the second time since July, Paige (born Saraya-Jade Bevis) lashed out at WWE over the 60-day suspension, posting a passive aggressive tweet that implied she had a prescription for whatever substance caused her to fail her drug test.
“Same s–t different day,” Paige wrote. “Kids … Please don’t get prescriptions or doctors notes. Not acceptable.”
WWE was quick to respond, pointing out that any claims of a legal prescription are utterly false, and that any attempts to throw WWE under the bus for failing to provide medical care are similarly untrue.
“Saraya-Jade Bevis tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug,” WWE declared in a statement issued to the New York Post. “In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury.”
This contradicts what Paige’s father, British wrestler Ricky Legend, had to say about Paige’s plight in a Facebook post shortly after her suspension:
“ok here we go again yes i know about my daughters suspension once again she has not failed drug tests,” he wrote. “My daughter has had a long term neck injury which imo has not be dealt with. i would have ask my daughter to return to UK For help with this injury as help and direction in the USA Has not been forthcoming imo. She has been in pain and out of in ring action for a fair while now and has been prescribed pain killers which apparently is against the wellness program.”
WWE usually keeps silent about what their talent tests positive for, and they even keep silent when a talent lashes out over a perceived unfair suspension, like with Adam Rose or Eva Marie’s suspensions. But Paige’s father is essentially accusing WWE of forcing an injured performer to continue working through her injury, and then failing to provide the injured performer with any medical assistance. Considering the public nature of this feud, that could cast a pretty negative light on WWE, so the company was pretty much compelled to speak out.
I’m not really sure who’s telling the truth or not, but what I do know is that Paige is more than likely done with WWE. It’s all just a matter of the company formally releasing her, because I really don’t see how she comes back from this. It’s rare for WWE to bury talent so publicly, and while they’re still under contract, no less. Hopefully, Paige and WWE won’t be on bad terms forever. Hell, the women’s divisions of both Raw and Smackdown could really use her. But right now, it feels like neither side is too interested in being associated with the other.
