The Writers Guild of America has announced its nominations for the year, giving a boost to some of the proposed Oscar hopefuls looking for a nomination next Thursday. While many of the potential Oscar frontrunners are in evidence in these nominations, the WGA is a body with a lot of peculiarities in its rules and regulations. This usually leads to the disqualification of several Oscar frontrunners from year-to-year, and this year is no different, as Django Unchained, Les Misérables, Amour, and Beasts of the Southern Wild were all excluded as a result of WGA regulations. However, the loss of those films is the gain of some underdogs such as The Perks of Being A Wallflower and Flight.
