The Voice and Twitter introduce ‘Instant Save’

The power is yours America! The Voice and Twitter are introducing the “instant save” next week during the results show on Tuesday.

#VoiceSave

How does it work?

On Tuesday, two artists will be eliminated. But before that, Carson Daly will present America with the Bottom 3. We then have FIVE MINUTES to Tweet who we want to save using #VoiceSave “Name of Artist” on Twitter!

This is crazy! I am so excited!

I love The Voice! Finally live voting. American Idol and The X Factor have been trying to make that happen for years — and now finally The Voice is implementing it.

Follow the blog next week if you are on the West Coast (or any coast) so you can tweet during the voting window! This is going to be good!!!

The Voice and Twitter introduce ‘Instant Save’

NBC’s “The Voice” and Twitter are combining forces to give viewers and fans of the Emmy Award-winning reality competition show a chance to instantly save their favorite artists from elimination.

The “Instant Save” will take place live during the results show on Tuesday, Nov 12. Previously, “The Voice” coaches exclusively had the power to save an artist from elimination, but now America will have an immediate say during the live show on Nov 12th.

“We are literally putting the power in the hands of our viewers, granting them a direct way to affect the fate of the artists competing during the live telecast. When the bottom three are identified fans will have five minutes to save their favorites via Twitter, ensuring our strongest performers remain,” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. “This invaluable partnership with Twitter exemplifies our efforts to have social media play a huge part in the structure of the show.”

“From its first episode, ‘The Voice’ has pushed the boundaries between the show and the audience, using Twitter to break convention and engage fans in totally new and unexpected ways. And now, with the Instant Save, they’re pushing the envelope again, giving fans at home as much power as the coaches.” –Fred Graver, Twitter Head of television partnerships.

“‘The Voice’ has a well-earned reputation as a pioneer in digital and social integrations,” said Robert Hayes, Executive Vice President Digital, NBC Entertainment. “We are delighted to work with Twitter to give fans the power to save their favorite contestants.”

After the outcome is announced during each results show, America will have the opportunity to choose which of the bottom-three artists will be saved by tweeting their pick. Fans will have five minutes to tweet to save their favorite artist. Those tweets will then be tallied and the final results will be announced live. To utilize the “Instant Save,” fans would need to log onto Twitter and tweet out #VoiceSave along with the artist’s name.

Viewers in the Eastern and Central time zones will be able to watch and tweet during the live show. Viewers in the West and Mountain time zones will also be able tweet their choice at the same time as the Eastern and Central time zones if they are following the @nbcthevoice handle, which will announce that the save period is open and what artists are eligible. For more information on voting on the West Coast, please go to http://www.nbc.com/TheVoice.

The social engagement platform from Telescope, the technology company used to authenticate votes on ‘The Voice,’ will tally the tweets in real time and the saved artist will be announced before the end of the telecast.

The “Instant Save” will be used on the Nov. 12, 19, 26 and Dec 3 shows.

Through the opening six weeks of the current TV season, the Monday edition of “The Voice” has averaged a 5.3 rating, 14 share in adults 18-49 and 15.6 million viewers overall, making it the #3 primetime series overall on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in 18-49, the #2 entertainment series and the #1 unscripted series. In total viewers, Monday’s “Voice” ranks #5 overall, #4 among entertainment shows and #1 among unscripted shows. Tuesday’s edition is delivering a 4.5 rating, 13 share in 18-49 and 14.1 million viewers overall to tie for #5 in 18-49 and rank #9 in total viewers in “most current” averages from Nielsen Media Research that exclude sports pre- and post-game shows.

I live on the West Coast and I hate this idea. I'm usually at work when it's on so I watch online and vote while they window is still open. This leaves me (and many others) out of this way of voting. I also don't understand how they can tally Tweets as votes...

I actually really HATE this idea.

Why don´t just let people vote the night before?

There is plenty of time. This is a pain to go through. Hope this experiment fails.

I don't know how i feel about this

@KariCook The show is tape delayed on the west coast "anyway". So any type of live voting is really at a disadvantage for the west coast unless they tune in to east coast time on the Internet.

@KariCook Since this is in coordination with Twitter, they should be using Twitter's technology for this.

@titina LOL! No! I want it to succeed! This is good for traffic. :)

@Forever504 I was like oh! Cool..

But then yeah, I thought about the fact that it won't be live on the West Coast, so it is possible that any west-coasters will be at a disadvantage as it is obviously harder to be engaged in the show just over social media..

@Klope62 @Forever504 That's why the need to follow Rickey.org during the results show! This is a win for us! :)

@Rickey  Ok, I don't  get NBC, so I follow your blog during the broadcast. As long as I keep refreshing, I'll know when to vote? And its only on Twitter?(feel like a bit of a dinosaur....) Wonder if NBC.com will have anything live?

@Idolwild @Rickey @Klope62 @Forever504 I love the idea that west coast will tune in for the live blog to see who is in the bottom 3 then will go nuts voting for 5 minutes along with everybody else. :)

@Rickey @Klope62 @Forever504 True, but not everyone wants spoilers like me who live on the west coast. Most want to watch the show live, therefore they will be left out of the instant save. It's a definite disadvantage for the West Coast.. I'm curious how they will televise an already recorded instant save to the west coast.
