NBC is mounting its own version of the Hatfields & McCoys tale from executive producer Charlize Theron, and the project has now found one of its McCoys.
The series, set in present-day Pittsburgh, sees the legendary feud reignited after a murder leads to old wounds opening between the wealthy, powerful Hatfields and the blue-collar McCoys, who go to war over control of the city.
Virginia Madsen, a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for the 2004 film Sideways, will play Eloise McCoy, a self-made woman who has raised her children to put family first. However, her cool exterior hides a ruthless demeanor. When her husband is murdered, she sets about manipulating Patrick McCoy into embarking on a vengeful campaign against the Hatfields.
The drama is an ABC Studios production, and will be written by John Glenn (Eagle Eye), who will also executive produce alongside Oscar winner Charlize Theron, A.J. Dix, Dawn Olstead and Beau Flynn. Michael Mayer (Smash) will direct.
