‘Veronica Mars’ Movie to Premiere at SXSW
The world premiere of Rob Thomas’ Kickstarter-funded, big-screen version of Veronica Mars will take place at SXSW.
The Veronica Mars movie features Kristen Bell returning as the titular heroine, drawn back to her hometown to unravel a complex murder mystery. SXSW, a festival which runs from March 7 to 16, has not set a date for the screening, but it’s likely to be before Veronica Mars hits theaters on March 14.
The original Veronica Mars TV series ran for three seasons from 2004 to 2007, and developed an incredible cult following. Few other cancelled TV shows have a fanbase that could have raised $5.7 million for a film adaptation, but that’s exactly what happened with Veronica Mars. The campaign boasted monetary contributions from 91,585 fans, and raked in the third largest amount ever raised through Kickstarter.
The complete SXSW festival lineup will be announced on Jan. 30 — except for the Midnighter features, which will be announced with the short film lineup on Feb. 5.
The Veronica Mars movie, meanwhile, releases in theaters on March 14.
