American Idol The X Factor

Top 25 Performances of 2012 – New Year’s Countdown – #24

Diamond White

Look how happy!

#24 is Diamond White with “Because You Loved Me”! Lowering the age limit for this season of The X Factor USA raised a few eyebrows, but as it turned out, the teens were arguably the strongest group of contestants. Diamond was cut during the first round of live shows, then brought back into the competition “spontaneously” by the judges. What a fluke. Honestly, I just didn’t think Britney Spears remembered Arin Ray’s name well enough to eliminate him that night he went head-to-head with Diamond. It was a choice between Diamond White and “Him,” if you remember Britney’s critiques correctly.

Thankfully, young Diamond lived on in the competition long enough to make the Top 5, but her rendition of Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” was most certainly her best performance, even rousing the panel to a standing-o. Simon, help the girl get her own bed, already. Also, was there ever this obvious of a choice for a new Disney Channel star (none of that Nickelodeon nonsense)? Beatrice Miller can play her sidekick! Carly Rose may not have ever really botched a note, but her BFF Diamond White always had a special way of connecting to her material that earned her a spot on this countdown. This vocal was pretty fantastic. Plus, she’s so damn cute!
