Tim Poe Is A Fraud – ‘America’s Got Talent’ Con Artist Lied About Service In Afghanistan

  • by Rickey
  • June 5, 2012 at 6:11 pm
America's Got Talent · America's Got Talent 7 · Tim Poe · Video

Tim Poe, a veteran who claimed he sustained injuries in Afghanistan and auditioned for America’s Got Talent last night, is lying.

I just confirmed this statement from Minnesota National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Kevin Olson that said Tim Poe did not sustain any injuries while serving in Afghanistan in 2009.

AGT producers f____ up this time. A lot of people think that Tim is going to win this year because of his backstory. Turns out his story was too good to be true. I can’t believe he pretended to stutter for sympathy! What a con artist!

Update: He doesn’t remember a majority of the details of his “injury” (Audio)

Update: Tim Poe’s DD214 proves he is lying (Video)

Read the statement:

STATEMENT FROM THE MINNESOTA NATIONAL GUARD

~~ Attributable to Lt. Col. Kevin Olson, Spokesman for the Minnesota National Guard ~~

Sgt. Timothy Michael Poe served in the Minnesota Army National Guard from Dec. 3, 2002 until May 26, 2011, and performed as a supply specialist.

His military records indicate that he served with the Minnesota National Guard in Kosovo from Oct. 10, 2007 until July 15, 2008, and was deployed to Afghanistan from July 28, 2009 to Aug. 30, 2009.

Sgt. Poe’s official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, as he reports. The Minnesota National Guard can also confirm that he was not awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds sustained in combat.

Watch the video of his audition here:

I was in a firefight once. The bullets were coming in so low I had to tear the buttons off my shirt so I could get closer to the ground.

Now that I've had my little jab at this Poe character, it's time to be serious. Vets (especially disabled vets) do not espouse their experiences in the military. I knew a Medal of Honor awardee once. You'd have never known it. He was as meek as a mouse. I've known guys with Purple Hearts, Bronze Stars, Silver Stars...nary a boast. Sitting around the VA hospital waiting to see my doctor I'm surrounded by DAVs and all you hear is small talk about life in general.. When I saw that goof ball on AGT smilin' like a possum eating crap...red flags popped up. In reference to those willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt......

...1. He lied about being in the military for 14 years

       2. He submitted photos depicting a military action going on. He was in none.

       3. He lied about volunteering to clear buildings and gather  the wounded.

       4. He lied about a hand grenade that no one else knew about.

       5. He lied about jumping on his men to protect them as he yelled GRENADE!!

       6. The master record keepers (the military) don't have one record concerning this tale. No medical records or  awards.

       7. He has no Purple Heart.

       8. He lied about his history of singing.

       9. He had the gaul to tell all this on national TV.

When I was an MP at Ft. Knox, KY every weekend there would be at least one kid in boot camp walking around with a row of ribbons  on his chest. We called them  "Audie Murphy Wannabes". This kind has always been around and will continue as long as there's some silly civilian willing to go "...Oh, what did you do to get all those medals".

I'm not here to excuse what the man did or didn't do, but if you look at all the past winners on reality shows and the Americans who vote for them! There is always a sad story behind the talent, and That is who Americans vote for, and not just on talent alone. If talent was all you need to win, I know for a fact that some of the wins would have  come out differently. If they tell him that he can't preform than that is the right thing to do, but don't sit in judgement when some of the Voters would be doing the same thing, and some of you would too.

Many suffered in many wars.  But to take credit for something that never happened will not gain you talent.  If he had left it alone his talent would have been good enough.  Evidently his talent was not enough even in his own mind. We should not tolerate his actions.  He has brought shame to the deserving veterans.

America sets itself up for these cons by being completely and inexplicably starry eyed over military personnel. Let's not forget that our military is comprised mainly of men and women trained to kill other people. Since WWII, nearly every war we've engaged in has been about oil. It's not the slightest bit about "national security" or keeping us safe. War is huge business and that business will be furthered by horrible people sending troops into harms way for economic reasons. Our military is the enforcement arm of our Chamber of Commerce. The military is there to make sure corporations are protected in their quests for more empire. So, don't fall for the sappy stuff about "brave men and women...blah, blah, blah". Dwight Eisenhower warned of the military industrial complex, and that's precisely where we are now. The massive profits made off of war are immoral. Companies love sob stories about soldiers because it makes it impossible to criticize the military. Well, gang, get used to it, because America LOVES WAR. There's no money in peace. I'm not moved at all by sappy stories of soldiers wounded in the pursuit of cheap oil. The US has no serious enemies anymore. There is no existential threat to us and we spend hundreds of billions of dollars every year on our sick war machine. All at the expense of education, health care, infrastructure and other more important issues.

@AverageAmerican We don't have any serious enemies anymore? Are you freaking kidding me? I guess it was our friends who ran planes into our buildings and killed thousands of people. And it was our friends who beheaded one of our soldiers. Our friends who teach the North Korean people that the US is out to kill them and they need to do everything possible to get rid of us. You know, technically the Korean War isn't over. You're a disgrace to this country.

@peachsnapple and JewellCiappio  A "disgrace to this country?" Really? AverageAmerican is doing exactly what is allowed and protected by the First Amendment of the US Constitution which codifies Freedom of Speech as a right to all Americans. We fought wars over this! Criticism and dissension of the Government,  (including the military) and it's policies is permitted and has been protected since 1791! How 'un-American' of you to advocate otherwise.

@Mikhail XO  @AverageAmerican To say all the wars we fight now is about oil is completely blind-sided. I'm the daughter of a 22-year veteran and have been around the military by entire life. I don't turn a blind eye to the circumstances that have caused my father to be sent away from me many times throughout his career. It's not about oil, what do you call the Korean War? Or the 9/11 attacks? I also have the freedom to have an opinion on AverageAmerican's reasoning. I never said he's not allowed to say what he said, but it IS, in my opinion, a disgrace to bash on the soldiers that have given him that freedom. The UN told Iraq to declare if they had WMD. They refused. That's sounds like grounds for a security threat to me! Also, we weren't the only country involved in that. Given all that, where does oil come into play? Nowhere. In fact, the only thing that oil would have to do with this is found within the criticisms of the war. One of the reasons for people being against the war is that it could have potentially disrupted oil production in the country.

YES! that 'right' has been fought for by our service men and women...so you are being a tad hypocritical in your unwavering criticism of AverageAmerican's right to express a dissenting opinion. "Oil-hungry" wars? Well, certainly not so in past history...but please, for my benefit, could you kindly explain the rationale of the Iraq War? I believe the threat of WMD has been debunked, The "war for democracy" was in fact, a lie. And the false patriotism espoused by Bush/Cheney, et al.  as rationale seems  lost on the majority of Americans.

    peachsnapple

@Mikhail XO  @AverageAmerican  @peachsnapple Yes, we all have that right, which has been FOUGHT for by soldiers in these "oil-hungry" wars.

Having spent the last 10 years in the US Army (8 as an infantry man with multiple deployments to Iraq) I can tell you that Purple Hearts aren't just 'forgotten' on service members records. Anytime a US soldier is wounded due to enemy fire they receive this award. In my battalion we had a guy in HHC who received a scratch on his hand from broken glass during an IED attack. Since the glass (from a shattered window) originated from an enemy attack he was awarded a Purple Heart. It was no worse then a kitten scratch but the military made sure he got credited with it. Besides, Poe's  battalion commander (Lt-Col) from Minnesota already said he's full of crap. When the O-5 in charge of the battalion says he's full of it, you can usually take it to the bank.

@mwk89 I feel confident  that Rickey did thorough fact-checking before running this national story of an AGT auditionee on his entertainment blog.  One must assume he directly contacted the Subordinate Unit commander, The NG territorial General, The  head of the infantry brigade combat team based in Afghanistan at that time, as well as congress.

We can only hope he was savvy enough to  contact the governor of Minnesota for firm confirmation. If not...he better pull the story.

@Mikhail XO Frankly, I'm concerned that Rickey didn't obtain a personal statement -- with official seal -- from someone on the Joint Chiefs of Staff . Without that, I'm going to have to believe (as any reasonable patriot would) that Tim Poe is America's greatest hero. Shoddy work, Rickey.

@CantRememberMyName I believe he is at the Pentagon today meeting with the Chairman of the JCS, Secreatry of Defense, Homeland Security Council and the National Security Council to secure this official sealed certification to further document his reporting....after attending a closed senate hearing on this matter.

@mwk89 This is what I did as a responsible blogger:

I read the blog that linked to. Looked at what it contained and realized that I can't just take it at face value. So I looked for the Minnesota National Guard on Google, and e-mail them if the statement was true. I got an e-mail verification from a ".mil" address - from the very person that issued the statement. So I posted it as confirmed statement.

Now the immediate reaction from these people that you follow is that I'm a liar. Go figure. Just goes to show what kind of characters these people are.

@mwk89 They probably will, but mind you the only reason it'll be is because this caught national attention. I went to auditions last year as an audience member, and there was this woman who received 3 es, but they let her through to Vegas because there was something about her that connected to us (the audience) and the banter that  we displayed was too much to ignored, so she was allowed to Vegas ...or so they told us. It felt like such an incredible and amazing television moment. ----but of course, not only did they *not* show her audition, she was definitely not apart of the finalist troupes in Vegas. It really upset, I just don't get what the point of lying to us all (and given her false hope) was.
