‘The Voice’ Winner Jordan Smith Makes History on Christian Music Charts
Jordan Smith made history on The Voice by consistently landing in the iTunes Top 10 for every week of the live shows. But now, he’s making history on the Billboard charts as well.
On the Hot Christian Songs chart, Jordan became the first artist to score both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the week. His cover of “Mary, Did You Know” topped the charts with 161,000 downloads, narrowly edging out his cover of “Hallelujah”, which landed at No. 2. Jordan is also at No. 8 with his version of “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, just behind fellow Season 9 finalist Jeffery Austin, who sits at No. 6 with “O Holy Night”. This placement gives Jordan another record to his name: in addition to being the first artist to claim both the No. 1 and No. 2 spot on the Hot Christian Songs chart, he’s now the third artist to occupy three spots in the Top 10. And that’s not all, as he had the strongest showing off the week for a new single in the Billboard Hot 100, coming in at No. 24 with “Mary, Did You Know”.
So it’s looking like Jordan Smith’s career is off to a hell of a start. Perhaps he’ll be the breakout star The Voice has waited nine seasons to find. If nothing else, we wish him all the best in his future.
