In NBC’s latest promo for season three of The Voice, which premieres September 10th, Cee Lo tells us that he’s “an alternative artist at heart” and that is why he looks for contestants who have something a little different to offer on The Voice. As a matter of fact, he says he’s “not even attracted to anyone who doesn’t wish to be as inventive and original as I want to be.”
Cee Lo’s attraction to the unusual has resulted in some of my favorite The Voice contestants, Vicci Martinez, Juliet Simms, Nakia and Jamar Rogers, along with some of my least favorites, Erin Martin, James Massone and well mostly Erin Martin.
Cee Lo calls Juliet’s performance on the finale “remarkable” and gives her props for battling through pneumonia to take the stage. He says that the pair are headed to the studio “sometime soon” and that they both “consider themselves outsiders” and he considers Juliet a good friend.
Cee Lo’s top advice to contestants is to take risks, as he feels the “real reward is in the risks that you take.”
I often find some of Cee Lo’s contestant selections to be a bit baffling, but I love that he does try to find and promote contestants who don’t fit the cookie cutter mold that we often see on these singing shows. I can’t help but root for Team Cee Lo, though I’m still waiting for Mr. Purrfect to get his own promotional video.
