‘The Godfather’ Charles Wright To Be Inducted In WWE Hall of Fame 2016 Class
Breaking news from WWE, as the company has just announced that Charles Wright, who went by Papa Shango, Kama Mustafa and The Godfather over the course of his career, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2016!
Wright was the 90s wrestling equivalent of an all-purpose character actor in the film industry. The man played everything from a voodoo priest to a “Supreme Fighting Machine”. Hell, he found his greatest success as a PIMP, for crying out loud, earning the WWE Intercontinental Championship in 1999 with a victory over Goldust. He would go on to abandon big pimpin’ Godfather character in order to join the Right To Censor stable under the name The Goodfather. Alongside partner Bull Buchanan, Wright won the WWE Tag Team Championship, before ditching RTC and returning to his pimping ways for the rest of his career. He’s sporadically be seen on WWE TV in the years since, most notably appearing as an entrant in the 2013 Royal Rumble, and as a special guest on the 2014 edition of Old School RAW.

While you could easily make the argument that WWE is really reaching for Hall of Fame inductees here, this has always been more of a Hall of Recognition/Remembrance than a Hall of Fame, honestly. Sure, The Godfather is a nostalgia act, but it speaks volumes for his impact that anyone remembers him at all. So congrats to The Godfather on his WWE Hall of Fame induction!
