The Bachelor – Season 17 Episode 6 – Recap
Reality TVIn The Bachelor Season 17, Episode 6, Sean and the nine remaining ladies travel from Montana to Lake Louise, Canada. At the end of the episode, we’re down to only six! Sean was disappointed in the last episode because there was so much drama among the females, but he renews his optimism in finding a wife here after the dates this week.
Catherine’s One-on-one
I don’t know why, but Catherine reminds me of Demi Lovato. That’s a compliment because I LOVE Demi Lovato. It’s something about their glowing smiles and radiant charisma.
Anyway, Catherine gets picked up by a giant snow bus at Jasper National Park, driven by… Sean! They put on onesie snowsuits and play in a snow glacier, making snow angels and tumbling around. “I want someone who can totally brace the moment and have fun, and just enjoy life,” Sean says. This probably looks like the most fun date out of all of the one-on-ones so far, even though they’re not doing much else besides frolicking in the snow. They have chemistry!
That night, they take a horse-drawn carriage to an awesome ice castle. Catherine reveals to Sean that when she was 12, she faced a traumatic experience at summer camp. She walked along a trail at night, and a tree fell on the girl walking in front of her, killing her instantly. Since then, she hasn’t taken life for granted. “I learned very, very early that my goal in life was to be in love and have a family,” she said. Catherine gets a rose.
“I can see myself with Catherine,” Sean says. “Catherine has melted my heart. She has given me hope that things will turn around here.”
Group date
The women on this date are Selma, AshLee, Lesley, Tierra, Lindsay, Sarah, and… Daniella. Daniella is the only one who hasn’t gotten a one-on-one or two-on-one date with Sean, yet her name is called for this group date. She’s confused.
They go canoeing on Lake Louise, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Lesley jumps in the canoe with Sean, while the other girls canoe in two separate boats. They reach land, and instead of a hot tub, they undertake the Lake Louise Polar Bear Plunge. They have to fully submerge themselves in the freezing water. “You don’t have to do this… but you only live once,” Sean rationalizes. #YOLO!
Good thing this challenge wasn’t turned into a competition like some of the other group dates. A contest to see who could submerge themselves in the ice-cold water the longest probably would not have ended well.
“I would do anything for a rose, but I’m not doing this.” Guess who said that? Selma, duh. That doesn’t bode well for her longevity on the show. Sean’s such an outdoors-y, fun-loving person, aka the opposite of Selma.
“I really don’t want to do this at all,” Tierra adds. “I might die.” Foreshadowing?!?
Everyone is dressed up — er, down — except for Selma. They’re jumping up and down in nothing but robes and skimpy bikinis to get ready for the plunge. “No one ever in my life has made me want to do something for them,” AshLee says. Everyone shrieks their heads off as they run in, plunge, and run out.
Afterwards, Lesley, Sarah, Daniella, and AshLee, gush over how amazing their experiences were. Then we hear… “Tierra can’t breathe.”
Tierra is shaking from head to foot, and her lips turn slightly blue. She’s wrapped up in warm blankets, carried away, and driven back to the hotel.
The girls think part of it is a ploy for all eyes, especially Sean’s, to be on her. “Tierra is very good at getting attention,” AshLee says.
The six girls continue to the evening portion of the date. Tierra’s not having fun chilling in the hotel room by herself, so she crashes the group date… again. The girls are in the middle of trash talking her, and just then, Tierra walks in! Everyone’s silent.
“Everyone, watch your backs. We have a Tierrarist on our hands,” Lesley deadpans.
Lesley ends up getting the group date rose, and Tierra is shocked. “Lesley got the rose tonight, and I think I deserve it,” Tierra says. You deserve it because you had “hypothermia”?
Sarah shows Sean pictures of her child self and her family. She told him how much it would mean for her for him to meet her family, but Sean doesn’t envision a life with her. Instead of making her wait until the rose ceremony, he sends Sarah home later that night. “Lately, I feel like I’ve been trying to force it,” Sean tells her. “If I’m being completely honest, I felt like we were reaching. I don’t know if you felt it or not, I wanted it to work so badly, it just hasn’t been there.” Sarah is upset but takes it like a champ.
“I wanted to hear his explanation, but it’s always been the same,” she cries. “I just don’t want to be told forever how great I am and what I deserve.”
Some guy out there, please put a ring on Sarah’s finger.
Desiree’s One-on-one
Desiree is the only contestant so far to get a second one-on-one date. They rappel down a 400-foot cliff at Banff National Park to get to a picnic down below. They then climb a tree and make out while sitting up in the branches. It’s pretty cute, but I can’t get over how much Desiree likes to gossip about the girls in the house she hasn’t liked — Tierra and Amanda.
That night, they have dinner in a teepee! Desiree tells Sean that at one time in her childhood, she lived in a trailer park while growing up, but that hasn’t stopped her from appreciating life. Desiree gets a rose.
Cocktail Party/Rose Ceremony
Selma is the only one of the remaining contestants that Sean hasn’t kissed yet, and it’s because Selma knew her family would not approve of her kissing someone on national television. She breaks her own rule tonight.
“I have something to give you, but you need to hold still,” Selma tells Sean. She then kisses him on the lips. “To kiss somebody on national television is a huge shame to my family,” she says. “But Mama, please forgive me.”
AshLee thinks the Polar Bear Plunge was a huge breakthrough for her in terms of stepping out of her comfort zone. She asks Sean to lead her blindfolded somewhere to help enhance the spontaneity in her life.
The women who receive roses are Lindsay, AshLee, and Tierra. Selma and Daniella are sent home.
Next week, the gang heads to St. Croix! Are you surprised Tierra is still here? Why has Tierra been injured twice already: bad luck, or bad luck and some manipulation? Let me know in comments!
