Steve Carell to Return for ‘The Office’ Series Finale

Folks from The Office and Carell’s camp have adamantly denied any speculation that Michael Scott would be returning for the show’s series finale, but the new word on the street is that this might very well not be the case.

According to TVLine, Steve Carell will in fact return to Dunder Mifflin for the show’s finale bow; however, there’s a bit of a catch.

From Executive Producer Greg Daniels:

I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the ‘Goodbye, Michael’ episode was his goodbye, and he didn’t want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Carell won’t appear at all. In fact, according to TVLine’s sources, the current understanding is that the form Office boss will make a cameo of sorts to help send off the series. While an NBC spokesperson declined the opportunity to comment, and Carell’s camp still deny that the appearance is happening, the writing seems to be on the wall.

The Office finally is slated for May 16th.
