Spike TV Renews ‘Lip Sync Battle’ For Season 3
Spike TV’s biggest show is coming back for a third season!
The network has renewed Lip Sync Battle for Season 3. The news was confirmed in an official press release that boasts about its “over half a billion” streams across multiple platforms. In addition, Spike champions the fact that it’s currently the #1 show in its timeslot with adults 18-49, the key demographic in all of television.
The third season will contain 20 episodes, and while no celebrity match-ups have been confirmed, it’s been expected that host LL Cool J and co-host Chrissy Tiegen will return. The new season will tape later this year, but you can check out excerpts from the press release below, for now:
Spike’s multiplatform megastar, “Lip Sync Battle,” has been renewed for a third season consisting of 20 half-hour episodes, it was announced today by Kevin Kay, Spike President.
“Lip Sync Battle is a multiplatform pop-culture phenomenon that has played an integral role in delivering a new and broader audience to Spike,” said Kevin Kay, Spike President.
The new season will tape later this year. A premiere date for season three will be announced in the near future.
“Lip Sync Battle” is the most-watched original series in Spike’s history and continually delivers a big and broad audience to the channel. Season two launched on January 7 and through the first two episodes, “Lip Sync Battle” is averaging 4.4 million viewers and is the top-ranked series in its timeslot with a 3.1 rating in the coveted demographic of Adults 18-49 in all of television.
The series is a digital hit as well, amassing over half a billion video streams since launch last April, with over 50 million alone for the season 2 premiere featuring Channing Tatum vs. Jenna Dewan-Tatum with special appearances by Beyoncé and Paula Abdul.
This is great news not just for Spike, but for fans of what has quickly become of the most consistently hilarious shows on television. Sometimes the pairings are obvious, such as when co-stars battle each other (like with Empire stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson), but other times, the pairings are fun in their randomness (like with Ride Along 2 co-stars Kevin Hart and Olivia Munn). And still other times, we get really cool moments between people who are clearly having a blast with one another despite the competitive nature of the show (such as with husband and wife duo Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum). Basically, this show is pure fun, and I’m glad we’re going to be getting more of it.
But what do you think of the renewal of Lip Sync Battle? Sound off in the comments!
