Sony Neo PS4.5 Will Have Updated CPU, GPU, RAM + 4K Video
The Sony PS4 is getting an upgrade this year with a better CPU, GPU and RAM, enabling it to support 4K output.
According to Giant Bomb, multiple sources confirm project “NEO” which ships in October 2016. Every game on the PS4 starting in October will be required to ship with a “base mode” for the original console and a “NEO mode” for the upgraded one.
The NEO will sell for $399 according to reports.
Looks like Sony is timing the release of the upgraded console for its VR offering the PlayStation VR which requires a “breakout box” to function with the original PS4. Perhaps “PS4.5” will eliminate the need for one.
Here are the specs according to Giant Bomb:
|CPU||8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz||8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz|
|GPU||AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz||Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz|
|Memory||8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s||8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s|
