So You Think You Can Dance Tour — Long Island, NY
Movmnt gave me a ticket to the So You Think You Can Dance show in Long Island. Thanks guys!
I have to say that SYTYCD fans are totally different from American Idol fans. The audience was generally older, still a lot of screaming girls, but also noticeably a lot of gay men. Also, everyone was kinda “behaved” and they were treating the show like it was a stage play and not a crazy concert like AI. Very interesting I thought.
Nassau Coliseum was packed. I would say that it was just as full as the Manchester and Portland concerts I went to for American Idol. I’m not surprised now that Fox has chosen to do their shows in arenas instead of places more intimate. There is a demand for SYTYCD. I heard the west coast shows have been sold out for weeks.
So what do I think of it? Well, it was great. I now know the formula of So You Think You Can Dance — come up with great routines during the TV show so fans have something to look forward to during the tour. It doesn’t really matter who wins. So basically, Wade Robson, Tyce and Mia Michaels are the stars of the show even if they were not there. Expect some more intersting stuff next year — they should make it a competition for choreographers as well. Paging Nigel.
I’m very happy that Danny Tidwell had a lot of fans who came to the show. I would say that he just edged out Neil Haskell in the screams. Neil just had the more explosive routines with the flips, but Danny got a couple of long loud applauses. Danny and Neil pretty much owned the show. After the tour they should think of a “dance tour” like cirque de soliel. That would be awesome. This has so much potential.
Dominic did some comedy routines and was certainly enjoying his “starlet” status. Maybe they’ll give him some sort of hosting job next year.
A necessary evil was that there were a lot of videos shown from the show. I think they had to do this to give people time to rest and breathe. As much as one number after another would have made for a more exciting show, we don’t want these guys to collapse on stage.
During the meet and greet after the show, I got to meet Hok (who told me that they did not do their hip-hop routine tonight because he hurt his back), Dominic, Pasha, Neil and Lacey. Lacey liked my camera and then she gave rickey.org a shout-out. Weee. I also got to meet Ray who was the handler for the dancers and the Idols during the Idol tour. He’s great. Maybe I’ll see him again next year.
Unfortunately, Danny had back problems and did not attend the meet and greet. I hope he gets better but I cannot hide my disappointment that I was not able to get my Neil-Danny sandwich picture! This means I will have to find another way… Sigh. I need frequent flyer miles. I have no more money. I hope Danny gets enough rest tonight. Go Danny!
The other dancers were there too, but I felt down that Danny Tidwell was not showing up so I left. It was also raining and I wanted to go home.
Finally, I just realized that I’m quite small. Hok and Dominic look tiny on TV, and they’re both bigger than me! Yup, that’s my goal when I grow up: to gain three inches.
Dominic liked my Venom t-shirt. (I do too).
Lacey Schwimmer shout-out:
Got Something to Add?
I'm totally a Danfan. I attended a show recently. I was in the lower seating 4th row middle seat.(sigh) Seeing Danny so closely really made my week. I screamed his name so many times during the show. lol I must say Danny is just beautiful in person. He signed my book, but I'm kind of shy and I barely said anything to him, so sad. :( He was really nice and very humble. Go DT!!
I am so jealous that you got to meet Neil. I am also shocked that you finally admitted you are a Neil fan!!!
Did Sabra have a big part since she was the winner that season? I noticed you didn't have a picture of her.
That's too funny...Sabra won the show, but we are showing off Neil and Danny because they are hotter.
I think they should offer a discount on the tickets - $5.00 off for each concert you went to! They need to utilize their cross-marketing of the two shows!
Hi been coming here for awhile but just registered :).
Congrats on meeting some of the dancers Rickey, So jealous you got to meet Lacey though!
I really really want to go the show in San Antonio but don't have the money for tickets.
Wow... Danny's body is incredible. It's so beautifully chiseled. He looks like a Greek God.
I'm sorry you didn't get to meet him again, Rickey. Aww... I hope Danny gets some rest and feels better soon.
I knew it you little stinker lol! Great pics Rickey. Maybe you can meet Danny again at another show.
Hi Rickey!! I’m a long time lurker. I’ve been checking your site since SYTYCD season 2 and I’m a big fan of Travis and Danny. It seems we have the same taste on dancers!!
I was also at Long Island show last night. I loved the show but they didn’t have the post Meet & Greet for the regular fans. I got to the coliseum one hour early and looked for the buses first but I could not find them. Then I left before the last dance ended and went outside but still could not find the Meet & Greet spot. I went back to the stadium and asked the staffs but they told me that they canceled the regular meet & greet due to the rain and the people with VIP passes were leaving for a hotel with the dancers. I’ve been waiting for a moment to meet Danny for two months and now I’m crushed. I belive that you had a VIP pass to meet the dancers but I guess since you could not meet Danny, I wouldn’t have had a chance. I thought Danny healed since he performed the two princes routine last night. I hope his injury does not get worse.
How do you get all these back stage passes to all these concerts?!
Who are your sources?
I have been a lurker on the site forever....Love it!! How do you get Meet-n-Greet tickets? I have tixs for the Houston show in Nov. and would love to meet the dancers.
Cool! Hi Aprylette! I didn't think about meet and greets with SYTYCD! I wish I could take my son but I think we spent so much on AI that we will probably have to pass. My son would love a picture of Hok and Dom, his 2 favs, though. I haven't totally ruled out the possibility of going to Atlanta to see them.
Well, I'll be d*mned, Rickey! You got free tix to see the show! That is too cool!
Sorry to hear that Danny & Hok were suffering back pain & that Danny had back problems preventing him from attending the meet/greet. But he's a pro & knows what it takes to heal.
A question, though. How many days between shows on the SYTYCD tour? As singers require down time for their vocal cords, dancers need it for their bodies, most assuredly.
