Simon Cowell says The X Factor Season 2 will focus on Pop Groups

Simon Cowell says that the next twelve months “in music” will be about pop groups — and he’ll be focusing on that for The X Factor Season 2.

In a new video released by FOX, he also says that the new host of the show will be American, and the reason why Paula Abdul had to be let go was having her on the panel reminded people of American Idol.

The X Factor will be more “different” … and more controversial! I like it.

Oh yes Simon...because those 'groups' were such a success. He is his own little entertainment executive think tank...

@jlscott13 I am sure you are correct...but he can't ignore that the groups bombed season 1 USXF--he was doing something wrong. How is he going to find the requisite number of talented and entertaining groups this season, and as an entire category? I think 'One Direction' was an anomaly not likely to be replicated successfully/repeated. Simon is going to tank his own show.

@Mikhail XO @jlscott13 Little Mix are doing okay as well. There were 2 very good recent documentaries on the BBC about Boygroups and Girlgroups. They have certainly made a comeback in the UK and I think the US may have finally had it's fill of Belibers...

He's trying to set his show apart from Idol and The Voice at least. If he hires someone as lame as George Clooney's beard - then I think I'll tune out. Save her for the geriatric set of Dancing With The Stars.

@rezzzy George Clooney's latest beard would, in fact, be a disaster. I am in the vast minority when I say I will miss cardboard-boy Steve. His hapless misspeaks and his constricted and constipated ways. Priceless entertainment.He was rather cute as well.

@Mikhail XO He was one of the few interesting things about the show. In fact though - this is why he DID start gaining a following. VFTW and ONTD loved him. Even some of the MJ frau started liking him.

Simon seems to be having some sort of late onset mid life crisis. Between letting Cecilia put out to the press that they were looking for "glamorous boy and girl hosts" (how tacky), the constant weekly news of pop tarts rejecting offers, then all the hilarious stuff every other day in The Daily Mail - he seems like he's losing it. I mean, the latest with him "admitting his crush" on another make up artist who looks like Cheryl Cole" is cringe worthy. But hey, if he needs a beard again for some reason, it's cheaper than actually pretending to date them and have to buy them crap ;-D

So they are going to force feed us the US versions of Lil Mix and One Direction. Hopefully The Voice can find a solution to plummeting ratings caused by the lame battle rounds and give XF-US the burial it deserves.
