Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone to announce Oscar nominations
FilmOscar host Seth MacFarlane took to his Twitter feed to announce that he will be announcing the nominations for the 85th Academy Awards at 5am PST/8am EST on Thursday morning alongside Emma Stone.
This represents a nearly-inconceivable break with tradition (what? I’m a fan of hyperbole), since the nominations are usually announced by the president of the Academy and a former Oscar winner or nominee, a practice that has led to some hilarious mispronunciations since the Academy president is often tongue-tied any time someone from outside the continental United States is nominated.
In recent years, nominees Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway have joined the Academy prez, as have winners Mo’Nique, Kathy Bates and Forest Whitaker. Check out the video below for an example of how the nominations are usually announced – if only to check out what a profoundly excellent hair day Jennifer Lawrence was having. And to hear the Academy president machete the name of the director of eventual Best Picture winner The Artist.
Good times.
