Pop starlet Selena Gomez has reportedly had her visa request denied by Russia, forcing her to cancel several concerts scheduled in Eastern Europe. The singer was set to perform in Minsk, Belarus and Kiev, Ukraine while in the area as part of her Stars Dance Tour.

Many are speculating that Russia’s refusal to permit Selena Gomez, who supports gay rights, to perform is connected with the recent string of anti-gay legislation, laws banning “propaganda on nontraditional sexual relationships.” The government is said to be taking extreme preventative measures following pro-gay sentiments shared by Madonna and Lady Gaga during their tour stops last year.

Gay rights activist John Becker had previously launched a campaign urging the “Slow Down” singer to stand up for Russian gay fans while taking the stage in their country.

What do you think? Was this an issue of gay rights or was Selena denied a visa for some other reason?
