Here’s the full video and review of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars Episode 2: “Gaff-In” on Logo.
To be honest, eliminating teams is a bit unfair, specially if one team member screws up and not the other. Last week it was Mimi Imfurst who brought her team down. This week, one of my favorites gets taken down by her partner.
Nina Flowers is partnered with Tammie Brown this season, and it was apparent from the start of this episode that they were in trouble. During the mini-challenge, Tammie goes left field when answering the question of what type of underwear Nina flowers wears: “She wears grass.” Grass??? To which Jujubee comments: “Get back to Earth.” It’s generally the theme throughout the episode: Tammie is weird, and the we all don’t get it.
To be fair, Nina took a big risk in her choice of who to impersonate during the main challenge, which set her team back even further. While the other queens chose to caricature easily recognizable stars like Oprah and Madonna, she chose Cuban star La Lupe. Who the F is La Lupe? I actually ended up Googling her — which was actually one of Nina’s goals in choosing the star (to add culture to RuPaul’s Drag Race) — but it didn’t quite help her in the challenge. Pair that with an off-kilter Tammie, and we got a hot mess.
The end result was inevitable. Even after a strong performance by Tammie in the “lipsync for your life” against an equally compelling Latrice Royale — Team Brown Flowers sashayed away.
The best part of this week however was “Untucked.” The queens cried about their fathers after an emotional moment when Chad Michael’s father gave a video message to Chad in the All-Star lounge. They have not talked to each other for 25 years. What a moment. Everyone cried.
There are four teams left. Surely there are more than four episodes to go, so this team thing is going to have to end at some point. Hopefully next week.
