Ratings: The Big Bang Theory beats American Idol – 2/01/2013
American Idol 12 had a 4.5 adult rating last night — down 14% from last week. Just as I predicted, Idol is in the 4′s this week already. The last audition show this season had 13.73 million viewers. None of the Idol shows last season had that low a number.
The Big Bang Theory was the #1 show of the night with a 5.3 rating and 17.51 million viewers. Person of Interest had 15.62 millions viewers.
The rest of the numbers:
On FOX, American Idol earned a 4.5, down seven tenths from last week’s 5.2 adults 18-49 rating. Glee scored a 2.1, down half a ratings point from last week’s 2.6
On CBS, The Big Bang Theory notched a 5.3, down a full point and a tenth after its last original’s series high 6.4 adults 18-49 rating. Two and a Half Men earned a 3.9, down three tenths from its last original’s 4.2. Person Of Interest earned a 3.2, down a single tenth from its last original’s 3.3 adults 18-49 rating.
On NBC, the premiere of Do No Harm flopped hard with a a 0.9, which is the lowest-rated in-season premiere of any any 4-network scripted program this season EVER.
On The CW, The Vampire Diaries was even with last week’s 1.3 adults 18-49 rating. Beauty & the Beast was also even with last week’s 0.7 adults 18-49 rating

Got Something to Add?
Wuss judges put thru the Obama Girl outta what? Fear? Political agreement? Certainly NOT talent... Its been on life support for a few years...
@Forever504 I don't think so "according to" Idol standards. We are now close to The Voice Season 3 ratings -- which Idol-fanatics routinely mocked as nothing like Idol ratings. So there is some irony in saying that these are "good numbers" if you are one of those fans.
Idol fans also mocked The X Factor ratings -- but those were also "good numbers" for FOX considering they faltered in the fall for many years.
The next line of defense of course is that Idol "makes stars" -- which says nothing about ratings. :)
@ArchieSue @Forever504 @Rickey It's a shame I can only like this comment once, ArchieSue. I'm in the same camp. Idol is clearly slowing down, but I'm just glad to still have it around, and Nicki and Keith are doing a great job (Keith in particular. He's that rare judge who knows his shit, but isn't pedantic the way Randy is. I love him).
@Forever504 @Rickey Well this idol fan loves both shows. Yes idol ratings could be better but the show is in it's 12th season and it's hard to make a classic new again but I think Nicki is doing a great job so far. I also really love Urban. Hopefully the numbers will get better but if not I'm still ok with it. I'm just happy that it is still around. Yes, we all know that The Voice is a success and it will continue to be a success.
Lets hope we have a Heejunie in Hollywood week, lols. :) Actually the talent this year is pretty dang good so far, my opinion of course.
They are good numbers because they are The Voice numbers! But some Idol fans just have blinders on and can't see it.
And no, I don't think The Voice will do well vs. TBBT. I'm already worried again vs. DWTS. Maybe ABC realized their mistakes from last fall and comes up with a better cast.
