Rachel Dolezal Asserts White Privilege As She Doubles Down On Her Transracial Blackness (VIDEO)
Rachel Dolezal doesn’t care what you think: she’s a black woman because she identifies as black. The irony is lost on her as she said this to a local CBS affiliate in Washington State on Friday.
It’s only possible that she can do this with a straight face because – surprise! – she’s white.
Dolezal, the president of the NAACP chapter in Spokane, Washington, fired up social media on Friday when her parents revealed that she had been pretending to be an African American for at least a decade. She is in fact 100% Caucasian.
Examples of her misrepresentation on Facebook include calling her black adopted brother her son and describing her permed hair (as seen in the video) as “natural.”
The NAACP now has to balance between maintaining their integrity and defending this nutcase. Culture appropriation – and in this case literally blackface as Dolezal wears makeup to darken her skin – are two things the NAACP fights against, and yet there she is, running the NAACP in Spokane.
“Yes, I do consider myself to be black and that’s because … you know, that’s how I identify,” she told the station.
“I actually don’t like the term ‘African American.’ I prefer the term ‘black.’”
Dolezal encouraged critics to “maybe think about W.E.B Du Bois that said race is usually biological, always cultural.”
