CJ at Pine Meadow Lake

CJ and I went hiking again today at the Pine Meadow Lake Hiking Trail in Harriman State Park. It wasn’t as hot as it could be thanks to the canopy, but CJ was exhausted and I was sweating buckets.

She ran and ran at the beginning of the hike, until she ran out of steam. She did however get overly excited again once we reached the lake — as she discovered fish! Unfortunately, she’s a novice swimmer, so she was very frustrated.

When we got home, she immediately crashed on the bed, while I headed to Chinatown with Carina for dinner. (Chinatown is a wonderful place btw — full of strange, scary and fascinating things!)

Kampupot in Bloom

I love the kampupot! After all the sampaguita flowers wilted, it’s time for the kampupot to shine, and it’s beautiful! It smells good too, and CJ wants to eat it.

Sampaguita in Bloom

I have to post about this since the smell in the apartment is so good right now. A few weeks ago I bought some sampaguita plants and they are now blooming! CJ actually ate one of the flowers which worried me a bit, but she looks fine so far.

Sampaguita is a species of jasmine (cultivar: Maid of Orleans). I also bought another cultivar, the kampupot (Grand Duke of Tuscany), and it’s also about to bloom. I used to be a plant killer even if I watered them everyday, so I’m glad that I’ve turned things around.

Gone Fishing – Striped Bass with Fritos

Last Saturday, I went fishing with Mario and Robert in Connecticut. We took one of those “fishing tourism” boats on Long Island Sound. The fishermen pretty much do all the dirty work with finding the fish, navigating the boat, setting up the hook, etc. When a fish bites, we took turns reeling in the fish. Easy! Recipe:
