Big fans of Paul McDonald. Great song choice! We just did a modern rock cover of this song. Check it out on iTunes. http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/six-to-the-wheels/id389764420
He was barking the whole time. And all of these silly bantering in betweens. 70% gimmicks, 20% teeth, 10% singing.
I loved his performance! He is my favorite. I love his energy, his voice, his originality, his charisma and fun personality... And he is so handsome and sexy! Phenomenal tonight!!
Hahahahaha, all you Paul haters sound so much like Thia fans hahahahaha. This is too funny. Ever since BORING Thia was out, every single poll page is full of Paul haters: Take Paul out, he doesn't know how to sing, he is going home... BANANAS! Paul is not only an extraordinary artist, but he has everything that it takes to win, he is the whole package. He sings, performs, has the charisma, the looks, likability, etc... HE IS A STAR!
This was a good performance by Paul, but there were others that blew him away tonight. Still, I think Paul did enough to stay at least one more week.
Paul is an artist. its just not the voice that sings...its the body, the eyes, and the legs. He is what this show needs to become. Finally he showed it.

This song incorporates Johnny Cash's signature rhythms of the train moving on the tracks. The train is an important part of the song, as is the experience of being in Folsom prison. Paul doesn't get it.
I think some of you are tone deaf and blind - Paul has no idea what he is singing about! Can you picture him in Folsom prison? I mean it's laughable with his awful high-pitched and off-key voice, singing it too fast. He has no soul for this song. Listen to Johnny Cash for goodness sake. That's the voice of real experience, not this garbage.
i just can't get on the paul bandwagon - actually, i don't have a favorite really and that is odd - i have not been wowed by anyone yet - maybe james durbin, but compared to other seasons - performance talent is lacking
I think Paul is fantastic every week, but this was just unbelievable. Absolutely great! An amazing performance for Paul!
Have you ever listened to his original music? He may be the best song writer/musician/original artist that Idol has ever had. He and his band have at least 4-5 songs that would be hits on popular radio if he ever got that big break before Idol.
As much as I never got Paul in the past, you're correct. He has a background performing with his band, and that's why he moves across the stage the way he does. So he won me over this night, but the other nights he didn't do it for me. I still think he's in it for his band instead of himself. Everything he does, it's about the Magnolias, and I think he doesn't care if he wins. The others want to win, esp. Haley since she didn't make the cut last year.
I think fatigue is sinking in for some, like Lauren, I think she's fatigued. I also feel that for Paul.
Casey is sleep walking and the least interesting of them all.
That' s why I liked him, because he didn't sing the "Folsom Prison Blues" everybody knows. It was fast-paced and different. He changed it up enough so that it could still be recognizable and then again, be his own. But whatever.
Anyway, I wanted to comment on your first comment about not being able to see him in prison. Haha. Dude, I could totally see him in there as the crazy haired, unpredictable psycho killer who is always smiling and upbeat.
I don't mean that in a bad way. I love Paul!
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ,I DON'T KNOW WHY HE HASN'T BEEN VOTED OFF YET,I THINK THE VOTERS KEPT HIM ON THE SHOW FOR MUCH TOO LONG, AND VOTING OFF MUCH BETTER SINGERS ,I AM SO MAD.
I hope people for once will re-watch the performances without the visuals and just listen.
UNIQUE VOICE: Pia and Lauren do sound alike except Pia is always belting. Pia is becoming more and more generic sounding now. Paul, Scotty and Haley have the most unique voices — you can name them just by hearing their songs. Casey and Stefano are in the middle. Stefano has to lessen his screaming, he doesnt need to shout every note of the song– its a singing competition not screaming competition. Stefano is the weakest for me this week. He took out the soul of the song by screaming. And yeah, we’ve heard that kind of voice before from boy bands everywhere and probably Fox will let him stay to keep those tweens watching (RATINGS!). Jacob is not unique at all. Thia has that unique voice, but Fox din’t give her a chance.
TOTAL PACKAGE: Paul has it! Paul has it. And Paul has it. Scotty too, he’ll be a big country singer just like Swift. Pia and James, we are tired of screamers already. Thia could’ve have been” it ” just like Nora Jones but Fox didn’t give her a chance. Lauren, she is the one who needs to find herself not Thia. But Fox likes her, so she stays. James is a total package too but it was already taken by Adam. So Paul, Haley and Scotty have it. Casey? Jack of all trades, master of none– and that’s bad. Jacob who?
Yes, Amanda! A girl after my own heart. I <3 what I've heard from the Magnolias, especially "Heartbreak." He is the type of artist who plays the type of music that is meant to be enjoyed live. His performance and energy was on a completely different level than anybody else's tonight.
Completely agree Sophia! This is Paul at his finest. High energy performance, acoustic guitar, amazing vocals. Loved every minute of it and you could tell Paul was enjoying himself. His original stuff in Grand Magnolias is a lot like his performance tonight and I'm glad America finally got to see the type of artist that Paul really is. His performance tonight reminded me a lot of his music video for Heartbreak because of the high energy. If this guy goes home tonight, then American audiences must be smoking something!
