Paige Miles – Smile – Video MP3 American Idol Top 16 Performance
Paige Miles sings Smile by Charlie Chaplin on the American Idol Top 16
Rickey: I’m throwing her under the bus.
Randy Jackson: It just didn’t work, man.
Ellen DeGeneres: That song is supposed to be inspiring. It was just sad and heavy.
Kara DioGuardi: Tonight was not the night to do that?
Simon Cowell: The arrangement was just awful. This could be the end of the road.

Got Something to Add?
The band was starting without her - - she practically had to RUN to the microphone! ONe thing we know about Paige from her past interview is that she likes to move around the stage - - and here she had to stay in one place. Looks like the microphone was stuck to the stand and she couldn't get it off at the start. Her face looked upset as soon as she got onstage...I doubt she wanted to have to scurry up to the microphone in her high heels...something was wrong here for sure...she probably didn't get her stage cue on time and that threw her off. She is more of a pop/soul rocker type...but the judges expect her to be a diva and that's why they asked her to do a "big, slow" vocal like this. Poor Page - - indeed she has a beautiful voice....I hope people keep the big picture of her other performances in mind when they vote. She also is very sweet and has a beautiful smile....too bad she had so little exposure earlier on...didn't give her a chance to amass the loyal fans that others have. Classy girl...something about the stage didn't work for her tonight...I hope she gets another chance.
too bad. people are judging correctly about her. it reminds me Gina Glocksen. yup! I have to say sorry to her. Next year, Paige! (Although Walk Away was so brilliant)
Beautiful girl! A wonderful singer. I actually liked this performance, it was very genuine....and not as bad as the judges said...she was just very emotional...you can tell she has real talent. They steered her wrong in the last two performances...what she really wanted to do was rock and be lively but they ASKED her to do this sort of thing. You can tell underneath she has this really gorgeous smokey voice...but unfortunately something was wrong here...and I don't hink it was her. it's like she had a bad moment BACKSTAGE or something.
I actually have to disagree with everyone and say I liked this performance. I thought the emotion of her performance matched perfectly with the emotion described by the lyrics, and it all seemed very genuine. There were a few pitchy spots, but I liked it enough to throw some votes her way. I would rather see her stay than Lacey or Katie.
I think there's a conspiracy against black singers by AI judges. They seem to find the worst black singers to send to the top 24. Why? This happens every season. Most black singers are in the top 10 chart of Billboard....but AI judges just choose the wrong singers everytime. It's as though they don't want to choose the right singers.
Well, I can tell just by reading the posts here that I'm not on Crystal or Siohban's pages. She sounds like a scared little girl singing a song in a school play. voice is very shaky. She is nice and cute but that was a bad performance.
i was actually rooting for her cause she got so little screen time, but why did she chose that song? she should've done something in the veins of 'hate on me' by jill scott.
Well, she was meant to be fodder anyway. I don't know who she is and I just tune out to all her performances. She better go now.
yeah i agree with a lot of the comments here, it was just bad. she's got a real problem with connecting to the song. last week when kara made the comment about singing "walk away" all happy and bubbly yet the song was kind of angry is a bit more relevant now. with a song called "smile" she didn't smile once. the vocals were shaky and all over the place, she was off, and flat, especially that godawful last note with that sad little run. it delivered a completely different message than the song intended. i actually think she has a really good voice but that's all she is, a girl who really likes to sing...that does not a recording artist make.
what was wrong with her voice ? wow she was awful , so bad. if she sang like that she wouldn't have even made it to hollywood. pack her bags! shes going home.
something about Paige I really like...shes a true darkhorse...I kinda hope she makes the top 12.....I actually felt really bad for her tonight
The sad thing is this girl has a GREAT voice....but she stuffed up. =/ I hope she makes it but I think this is gonna be it for her....
This song brings to mind Season 6, when my favorite contestant (of that season), Gina Glocksen, sang it. She was brilliant, but, shockingly, was sent home. For me, singing this song is a death-wish on this show. This may very well be the end of Paige Miles Idol career.
when she came out i thought she would be amazing... she was very disappointing... off key and just didnt sing the amazing song very well at all
I so agree with this. She came out and I saw her face and thought what's wrong with this girl? As she was singing, I kept thinking that something was wrong, her pitch was bad and she didn't have half the voice she has had other weeks. She did say that she was emotional because she was grieving Michael Jackson.
Agree! Angel Martin comes to mind who should have made the top 24 and made it to the top 12! She definately would have been competition.
I don't get it either....what is up with these weak black singers they bring on and I don't even recognize half the songs they sing. How do you keep the black audience tuned in when there really isn't anyone interesting enough to keep blacks watching. The only reason I'm watching is because I like Crystal and Lily who are different and much better than the mediocre singers that have been on for the past several seasons!
Although yes she has a great voice, that was really a horrible thing she did to that song, all I could think of was Jermaine singing it at Michael's funeral and it was so beautiful.....if she really was a fan she would have skipped that song!
Totally. She couldn't pull it off. How come these singers choose the wrong song....don't the voice coaches try and tell them what to sing?
That makes you wonder -- if the judges chose the "best"....what did the "worse" singers that got cut sound like? Would they have been better than this girl and some of the others? What do they see in these people?
Agreed! I LOVE Gina Glocksen! But Paige didn't do good. And i think the fast paced beat at the background is really really strange! I hope she goes home and let other talented performers stay! If she stays, there is no meaning to this competition at all.
