Novak Djokovic beats Rafael Nadal at Australian Open 2012 Final
Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open 2012 Championship 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 in Melbourne, Australia. It was the longest Men’s Final in a Major at the Open era clocking in at 5 hours 53 minutes. What a classic!
There was a rain delay during the fourth set which took 10 minutes for the roof to close. This gave Rafa a bit of a momentum shift to win the fourth set, but Novak could not be stopped even if it looked like he was running out of gas in the fifth set.
This was the third consecutive meeting between the two in a major final: 2011 Wimbledon, 2011 US Open and 2012 Australian Open. Novak had won the last 6 matches against Rafa.
Hopefully Rafa stays healthy for the French Open where Novak has not dominated the tennis court. He’s unstoppable now. Rafa played defensive for most of the match as winning points for Novak seemed effortless — even in the fifth set when he looked more exhausted than Rafa.
