Nigel Lythgoe launches phone hacking lawsuit
AMERICAN IDOL boss NIGEL LYTHGOE has launched a lawsuit against RUPERT MURDOCH’s U.K. media company after cops told him his phone was hacked by News of the World journalists.
The TV producer is seeking damages after discovering voicemail messages left on his cell phone were intercepted by a private investigator working for the British tabloid.
Dozens of celebrities who fell victim to the scandal settled their claims at London’s High Court on Friday (08Feb13) and it emerged during the hearing that several more public figures, including Lythgoe, are suing the paper’s parent company News International.
Ironically, the music mogul’s talent show currently runs on the Fox Network, which is owned by Murdoch.
The scandal erupted in 2011 when it emerged hundreds of famous faces and members of the public had been targeted by a hacker working for the tabloid, which was shut down in the wake of the outrage. (KL&ZN/WNWC/MT)
