Nigel Lythgoe: ‘American Idol 12 judges don’t have chemistry’

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe just openly threw this season’s judges under the bus. He told Zap2It that he’s worried about the lack of chemistry of Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson on the panel.

“I don’t think we have good chemistry with the judges,” he said. “I miss the camaraderie we have had in the past.”

American Idol exec Nigel Lythgoe attests judges lack chemistry

AMERICAN IDOL executive producer NIGEL LYTHGOE has agreed with the show’s many critics and confessed this season’s batch of judges lack the chemistry and camaraderie the panel members have had in the past.

The hit singing competition has undergone a few line-up changes in recent years, but incoming panelists have always been able to get along. However, it has been clear since auditions began on the current season that Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Idol veteran Randy Jackson don’t always get along – and tensions have reached boiling point at times.

Now Lythgoe tells entertainment news site Zap2it.com that he and the other producers are just as worried about the apparent lack of chemistry as fans and critics of Idol.

He admits, “For me it is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle that doesn’t quite fit… I don’t think we have good chemistry with the judges. And that saddens me. They are good individually, but I miss the camaraderie we have had in the past.”

And Lythgoe insists that he adores each of the judges individually, but the panel was doomed from the start thanks to the feud between Minaj and Carey that began during the initial auditions last year (12).

He adds, “That (feud) got off to a bad start and that didn’t help anything. The guys themselves are, goodness me, I don’t think you could find two nicer men. Randy is loved by America, and Keith is the nicest man you could hope to meet. Individually, every single one of them has something to offer.”

Fans appear to be so uninterested in the feuds, they are turning Idol off – now in its 12th season, the show has become a victim of falling ratings since its premiere in January (13). (TD/WNWCAZ/KL)
