NBC Renews ‘The Apprentice’ for 15th Season
Last night, Leeza Gibbons was crowned the winner of The Celebrity Apprentice, triumphing over Geraldo Rivera in the finale and earning the $250,000 grand prize for her charity, Leeza’s Care Connection. But that wasn’t the only big reveal The Donald made during the finale.
Donald Trump revealed that The Apprentice has been renewed by NBC for a 15th season. It was a foregone conclusion for NBC, considering it did some really solid ratings for the network this year. Season 14 returned with a 2.3 in the adults 18-49 demographic, which represents a 35% increase from the Season 13 opener in March 2013. The show would go on to score a season high 2.5 rating at the start of the month, making it the highest-rated show of the night for a second straight week.
Basically, while the franchise isn’t the ratings powerhouse it once was, it’s still got huge value for NBC, particularly in its celebrity iteration. So this is better news for NBC than it is for Trump, likely, since he doesn’t actually need to do the show beyond satisfying his ego. Gotta be in that spotlight — not that I blame him.
