Brazil went for a sweep of the indoor volleyball gold medals in the Men’s Volleyball final vs. Russia at the London 2012 Olympics. This was a great back and forth match that went the full five sets to determine the gold.
Here are your medal results:
It looked like Brazil was going to cruise to victory in this match after winning the first two sets 25-19, 25-20. Brazil would take the lead in the third set as well and appeared on the brink of victory. However, Russia would fend off two match points to eventually win the third set 29-27 and force a fourth set.
A fired up Russian team would claim a 25-22 victory in the fourth set, sending this match to a decisive fifth set. Russia would complete one of the most exciting and unexpected comeback victories in these Olympic games by winning the fifth set 15-9 to claim the gold medal. A disappointing result for the Brazilian team, but brilliant fight and determination from the Russians to come all the way back from two match points in the third to a gold medal victory. One of my favorite moments of the London games.
Italy defeated Bulgaria in the bronze medal match.
Congratulations to all the medal winners!
