Make It Or Break It – The New Normal – Recap
TVThe Spring premiere kicks off with the girls dealing with the aftermath of the World’s tryouts. Kaylie has been sent to rehab to deal with her eating disorder and Lauren has moved in with Summer. Unable to forgive her father for lying about her mother, Lauren refuses to speak to him. I wonder what he would think once he finds out everything Lauren has done. I can’t wait for that reveal to be honest. Even if he’s annoying, he’s not quite as evil as Lauren so I can’t hate him. I like having him around if only because it gives Candace Cameron a reason to say the name “Steve Tanner” constantly.
Emily is out of jail and is meeting with her probation officer. The girls have an exhibition in Denver coming up and in order for Emily to go, she needs to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet. How very Lindsay Lohan. It doesn’t get in the way of her performing but it’s not very easy to hide. Speaking of things that are hiding; Sasha. Payson and the rest of the girls are finding it hard to move on after the disappearance of their coach who before now, has always been there for them. If only Lauren hadn’t leaked the video of Payson kissing him. If everyone saw the entire thing, it would clear Sasha’s name. Lauren just has to do the right thing. I wonder if that’ll happen anytime soon.
I sure hope so because the distinct lack of Neil Jackson on my tv so far this episode is depressing. There’s no dreamy accent whispering words of encouragement anymore. Payson’s mom must have sensed how awful this is so she goes and finds him! And then we get more than made up for it when she walks in on Sasha boxing shirtless. Thank you writers. Unfortunately, Sasha and his new haircut won’t be coming back to the gym anytime soon.
The Denver exhibition has the girls performing against the Denver Elite. This team consists of old time rival Kelly Parker and newly scorned and bitchy Carter. Sheesh. Was he always such an ass? They can have him. A new face, Max, is hanging with Austin trying to decide which team to join. Lauren is already trying to sink her paws into him but he only has eyes for Payson. Yay! She needs some happiness finally. She’s my favorite. The Rock team performs well but everything stops suddenly when Emily fails to hide her ankle bracelet. She runs off stage and Max decides to save the day by joining our team. Yay! Emily publicly apologizes for her actions and acknowledges the support around her. Yay! She’s finally stopped blaming her mother for everything.
The girls visit Kaylie in rehab to see how she’s doing. She’s doing fine if you ask her because she still doesn’t think she belongs there. She’s in cahoots with her roommate who is also convinced she’s supposed to be that thin. She’s a model and this is her third rehab. She tells Kaylie that if they stick together, they’ll both get out of there in no time. Why do I feel like this won’t end well?
The Spring premiere was a great way to kick off the second half of the season. Not a lot of big things happened but it really set some major things up for the rest of the season. I kind of wished ABC Family would acknowledge what a great show this is and give it a marathon before the premieres. What did you think?
