Lostprophets Singer Sentenced, Calls Baby Rape ‘Mega Lolz’
Ian Watkins, the frontman for the now disbanded rockband Lostprophets, was sentenced to 35 years in prison today (Dec. 18) for various acts of pedophilia including the attempted rape of a baby.
All of which he seems to find hilarious. It’s okay if you need to throw up, we’ll wait.
36-year old Watkins pleaded guilty last month to the “attempted rape and sexual assault of a child under 13″ but not guilty to the charge of rape itself.
Watkins also admitted to “conspiring to rape a child, three counts of sexual assault involving children, seven involving taking, making or possessing indecent images of children and one of possessing an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal.”
He will be up for parole after serving two-thirds of the 29 years he was sentenced to in prison. He was handed an additional six years as part of an “extended license,” bringing his total sentence to 35 years.
The two co-defendents alongside Watkins (one of whom is the mother of a child handed over to be abused) were also sentenced, one for 14-years in jail, another for 17.
The senior prosecutor referred to Watkins as, “a highly dangerous and manipulative individual who preyed on his victims in a calculated manner … It is incomprehensible that adults would commit such appalling acts against children and young people and our thoughts remain with the victims and those close to them.”
Added Justice Royce in court, “You had many fawning fans. That gave you power. You knew you could use that power to induce young female fans to have help satisfy your insatiable lust and take part in the sexual abuse of their own children.”
“What you three did plumbs new depths of depravity.”
The case is currently still open as detectives seek any other victims of Watkins, working with Interpol and Homeland Security to do so. As the Detective Chief Inspector explained, “Offending against children does not get any worse. We are not talking about children of any age here, we are talking about babies. I don’t know what he is not capable of.”
It was also revealed in court that the unrepentant Watkins spoke on the phone to a female fan after pleading guilty, admitting, “I’m going to put out a statement on the 18th just to say it was mega lolz.” He also claimed he was not a pedophile, adding, “I do not know what everybody is getting so freaked out about.”
Sometimes there just are no words.
