i love the director's and anne's artistic choice to perform IDAD ' internally"., and not belted out like on the stage musical. she's a broken woman, desperate, sold her hair, became a prostitute to save her child. she should not sound pretty. you can hear and see all the raw emotions in that short clip. this works perfectly for the film medium.

@maila I agree... you can feel the desperation and angst in Anne's performance.

In the theatre, it does make more sense to have an actor belt it out for an audience that needs to hear and feel it from the nosebleed section, but for a movie you have to work with what the camera does to a performance.

I cannot wait to hear what they do with the fanzine character. I do hope that since that is one of the signature pieces (if not THE) of the show, they would stick closer to the original stage production. We'll see but color me piqued for now.

I love Anne Hathaway... but there's no way her voice comes close to holding up to the Broadway versions. I kind of hate it when they make Broadway shows into movies - Phantom of the Opera with Emmy Rossum singing Christine?? Rent with Rosario Dawson as Mimi??? Eeek!! I just don't know if I'll be able to sit through this... just like I couldn't sit through the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary concert with Nick Jonas singing the part of Marius. Awful. But, I do love Anne and Hugh Jackman can certainly hold his own!
