Got Something to Add?
Raise your hand if you're tired of hearing people say they "don't get it" about Lee.
What you don't get is that NO ONE CARES. Lee FTW!
Everyone needs to just shut up and get over the fact that the only person worth watching is Lee Dewyze. He's got it all, the voice, the talent, the looks... everything. Casey blows, Big Mike's got it, Crystal is losing her spark. Get over it. In the end it's coming down to Lee and Mike and then it's anybodies game. But seriously, all you Lee haters need to get over yourselves and the fact that you will never be where Lee is today. And, as far as him being another Kris Allen "forgettable" that's a joke. Do you know how many great artist have that rasp in their voice and go further than anyone who can hit a falsetto. And another thing, if you're all so mad about your favorites getting voted off... maybe you should do a little better with your part and vote. Don't hate because Lee has more fans, don't hate because his voice is amazing, don't hate because he is better than you will ever be.
This guy is so overrated. It's nauseatingly obvious that they want him to win. Reality is, this guy sings out of tune 90% of the time.
For those who thinks Lee cannot sing, go to youtube, and then search Lee Dewyze Use Somebody.. Goosebumps!
In defense to Lee, I really don't get it why others need to bash Lee which is not constructive instead of concentrating on their favorites and their musicality. But it is valid others think Lee did good and some think he did not as it is universal to us to have our own likes and dislikes and appreciate music and performances from different perspectives as well the way we want it.
The reason why I think a lot like Lee is because of his artistry. Not only he delivers good performances that are so honest and soulful but also he has this humble personality attached every time he performs. Performance needs not only good music but also the connection and emotion delivered to its audience and the humility of the performer and that what I think separates Lee from others is because he is simple, kind and humble.
Next, Lee I think is more authentic rather than generic in terms of musicality. Hearing his pre-idol stuff, Lee is this kind of an alternative folk rock musician rather than the usual pop rock musician because his albums is nothing like that of Daughtry, Nickelback and Hinder as some mentioned. Because these artists for me I think also does generic radio ready songs just for the melody and tune. Lee is different from them and his vibe is more of like Dave Matthews Band and more of a singer-songwriter type of musician.
Another point is that oftentimes he is said to be pitchy when he really is not. Sometimes the pitchy thing that we heard is often disguised as a grunge and not pitchy at all because I think this is a common misinterpretation to post-grunge singers like Lee every time they reach grungy high notes. Moreover, when he his notes it is rather called than a sweet spot or raspy and not pitchy.
Overall, I think Lee really can win this and there more to come for Lee. Just wait for another big suprise as Lee can deliver and suprise more every time he performs. He is really a great artist and I know will be successful as major record labels out there are already in line for Lee. Lee is truly awe-inspiring!
Lee is the best! He is improving himself every week and listening to the the judges and mentors. Telling america he is in it to win it! Unlike crystal who doesn't care and is just there for the money.
Lee was my favorite of the night... I really enjoyed it.
We all have our favorites and root for them... so just ignore the people that want to bash a little harder than necessary - i don't have time for all that.
Just giving kuddos to Lee! Congrats and well done!
I'm pretty Lee's got it in the bag. Lee haters and Lee lovers... don't worry about everyone else. We all have our own opinions. It's not worth fighting about. If you love him, love him. If you hate him, hate him.
Lee the winner!? Why? Sorry, I just don't get it. Crystal may not have chosen a song where she can belt it out (it seems as if anything softer than a police siren just doesn't cut it with the audience), but her delivery was impeccable. She has that same quality as Peggy Lee e.g., the lyrics 'float' above the melody line. Effortless. Lee will be another Chris Allen if he wins. Totally forgettable. Another non-entity. In passing, the judges were especially nasty last night. Don't think they had to be that unkind, especially to Casey.
I am trying really hard to understand the fuss over Lee and am still at a loss, he is so average and a lot of the time flat as a pancake - seriously !
He was really going for the early Billy Joel look -- skinny tie, jacket and sneakers. And I suddenly realized that's who his voice reminds me of, for better or worse.
*tsk tsk* Pitchy, pitchy, pitchy this one. You know, for that to be the judges' favorite comment, it's barely used regarding Lee, when, ironically, it is probably best suited for him. ALL of his "big" notes were off key. How can you pimp someone who is consistently off key?
Do NOT get the Lee love right now.
Not in tune
Not "into" the rhythm/song
"Ole Blue Eyes would not have given him minute of his tiiiiiiime!
I'm not a big fan of Lee but this performance felt genuine and honest - excellent stuff no matter how you slice it. Nothing karaoke about it. Great job, DeWyze!
Yes!!! Finally! It was great to see Lee finally, completely let loose on stage. There was swagger, there was sexy (as always,) and I even saw a couple of smiles. Harry Connick Jr. was a great mentor for him. We haven't seen such a come-from-behind rags-to-riches contestant since Elliot Yamin.
Dark Horse FTMFW!!!
If he wins, he will be the WORST idol winner of all time ! At least Taylor Hicks can sing live and on key !
He seriously needs auto-tune to help him singing live in his solo concert !
I forgot to say that I think Lee is so damn cute!!! I think with those looks and that voice, we're going to see a lot more of him. I've heard a few of his songs off the "Slumberland" album done pre-Idol and he sounds great!!!!
We have our American Idol winner right now! Lee was great and he picked the perfect song for his singing style. Definitely the best of the night. Lee has impressed me from the beginning. When you hear him, you know it's Lee. I love his vocals. So soulful. GOOOOOOOOOO LEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are going to win this thing!
The people that are bashing Lee are usually Casey fans. They're just hating cause Kara said he sounds like a goat ~baaaa-aaaaa-aa!~ Sorry to see that you're fave can't make it without the guitar :p
If he wins it will be a bigger joke than last year. SORRY ! ADAM WAS ROBBED ! HANG IN THERE CRYSTAL.
Lee is really starting to understand how to win this.
I can tell by the look on his face that the shyness is going away and he looks happy.
He will win.
The order tonight was perfect - worst to best. Lee definitely closed the show on a high note! Love him!
Maybe Lee's best and the most "swagger" of the night but he was disconnected from the meaning of the song. Oh well. I don't know why Rickey insists Lee is the Dark Horse, Lee has been the "frontrunner" for a few weeks.
I love Sinatra. Over all this was the dullest Idol show yet. None of these kids will have any chart impact.
Why don't you get on that stage and we'll see how you do. Lee's good no matter what, not pitchy. If you don't like him... don't listen.
Wow. A little harsh, don't you think? Dissing Lee and Kris Allen in the same sentence. I've listened to all audios of the 5 remaining AI singers and have to agree with some of the judges' comments. Crystal had previously excelled in her covers of People Get Ready and Midnight Train To Georgia. She would have done Eva Cassidy and Gladys Knight proud. Loved her passion and interpretation on those scores. This rendition of Summer Wind was unusual but fell short in its delivery and overall effect. It started off shaky, meandered and then got lost in the flat lands especially when the orchestra seemed to overpower her vocal. The song never really took off even if it was supposed to be soft and wistful. Contrast that with Eva Cassidy's Songbird, a slow melancholic ballad which I can appreciate. Perhaps that was why Randy thought it was subdued and Simon called it indulgent. Crystal can still win on the strength of her performances on most weeks and her vocals outshine the others when she's focused on the right song, interpretation and delivery.
Interesting that you compared Lee to Kris. I watched Lee singing one week with his side mouth open and the shape of his face/ jaw/ eyes reminded me of Kris! I actually like Kris but think his AI performances were superior to his commercial releases. He would have done so much better with a debut of original and contemporary folk songs or soulful ballads such as To Make You Feel My Love rather than the forgettable pop covers that he ended up with. More Damian Rice/ Mat Kearney, less The Script. Kris's talent lies in acoustic song interpretation and his pleasing soothing vocal. People like Lee probably because of his gravelly vocal which does remind me a little of John Hiatt, Mellancamp and Cocker. Rough edge with rustic charm. The judges and his fans love the tone to his voice. Still undecided on Lee but I can hear the commercial sound to his voice and I liked his version of Beast of Burden. His cover of Come Together was novel with the bagpipes and That's Life wasn't bad either. No favourite anymore this season but agree that the judges want a Crystal Lee finale. Maybe they think a gender balance and battle of the sexes will make the finale exciting.
I've never understood the Lee love. I've always said he has a nice tone to his vocals, but he's always off key, yet the judges just LOVE him and never mention it.
Oh well.... Good luck to him none the less.
Lee is nothing like Nickelback/Daughtry/David Cook or anybody else you'd like to compare him too. His style is very different from them and he's definitely not the rocker you think he is. But whatever, if that is your opinion, then please enjoy the ignorance.
Thanks for the support, Brian & Janni - I was expecting people to jump down my throat for my criticism of Lee. And to clarify, I do like Crystal, I'm just not a huge fan who's so into her that I hate all the other contestants, haha. Some weeks I love her performances, and other weeks they don't do anything for me, so I'm hot and cold with her I guess. Siobhan was my favorite, but Crystal has been my second-favorite from the start. But I wanted to make clear that I'm not a BIG fan of anyone this year, so my comment wouldn't be miscontrued as bitterness from a Crystal superfan. Overall, I think this year's batch of top 12 contestants were just lackluster - it's an off year. I'm not a superfan of anyone this year like I was with David Archuleta, Elliott Yamin, Adam Lambert, and Melinda Doolittle in years past.
Lee seems like a nice guy and I like him as a person - plus he's an underdog, and Americans love to root for the underdog. I love underdogs myself, but only the kind like Elliott Yamin - who have so much talent that they deserve to succeed. I've read comparisons of Lee to Elliott and I think that's crazy - that's an insult to Elliott, IMO. Elliott has a husky quality to his voice too, but the vocal similarities end there. Whereas Elliott always has perfect pitch and a wide vocal range, Lee has a narrow range and continually goes off-pitch. Lee's high notes are painful to the ears, while Elliott's soar and give me goosebumps. Lee has never once bowled me over with a flawless vocal the way Elliott does. I have a good ear for music and I've played piano for 10 years, so I pick up on it immediately when someone goes off-pitch. Lee has been widely criticized on blogs like this for going off-key all the time, so I know I'm not the only one who has an issue with this. But I can see why people WANT to root for Lee so badly, which makes them overlook flaws that they don't want to admit are there.
Bottom line - this is all just my opinion! I think American Idol is not what it used to be, which is a shame because it used to be my favorite show. At least in the past few seasons, there was a lot of exceptional talent in the top 12, even though they didn't all make it as far as they deserved. But this year is the worst yet because the talent pool is so weak to begin with, AND the few great singers are getting sent home early!
I never thought Adam was robbed, cos Kris was a cool guy with humble personality, but on stage he and his originality really brings the stage down! But Lee, oh dear... He just can't sing in tune!!!
And that is the worst "That's Life" version I've heard so far... Even Westlife does it better!
The judges are really getting in my nerve...
I second every word you wrote, Julie. (Except that I'm a big Crystal fan.)
If this was a talent competition, Crystal would win hands down. But as I learned from the fate of Melinda Doolittle, winning AI has often very little to do with talent.
Wow, this is really a Lee lovefest going on here! Sorry to rain on your parade, but I agree with Bev - every year this show gets to be a bigger and bigger joke. It was ridiculous when Adam lost, and it will be ridiculous when Crystal loses too. And before everyone rushes to click that "thumbs down" button and call me a "hater," I'll explain why I don't like Lee as a singer. I'm not a Casey fan or an Aaron fan or even a big Crystal fan either. Heck, even though I loved Siobhan's voice, I'm not crazy about her like I've been about other contestants in the past. So I'm not a biased fan just spewing blind hate for all the other contestants besides my "favorite."
I don't like Lee's voice because it sounds like an inferior version of every rock band on pop radio right now - Nickelback, Daughtry, Hinder, Shinedown, David Cook... the list goes on and on. Lee brings nothing unique, nothing special with his voice. Rather, he is a poor man's Nickelback or Daughtry because he can't stay in tune. I cringe every time he tries to hit a high note or hold a note for longer than a second or two - his voice is grating and unpleasant to my ears. Some of his high notes are downright excruciating. If I heard him on the radio without knowing who it was, I would turn it off. Granted, his studio tracks sound good because his vocals in them are digitally enhanced - which is basically auto-tuning without the obvious sound effects that hip hop artists use. But this doesn't mean Lee should make an album - you could give a record contract to any bar singer and make his voice sound just as good with studio tricks.
Just FYI - I've been saying all this about Lee from the beginning, long before he emerged as the dark horse, so this is not sore-losery bitterness talking here.
So I don't think Lee deserves to be the American Idol, but I believe he will win anyway. Because ever since Season 5 when Taylor Hicks won, there has been what I call the "curse of the frontrunner" - the early frontrunner has lost every single year since 2006. There's always a backlash against the early frontrunners because they are the perceived "chosen one," which is not fair to them because it's not their fault that the media and judges fawn all over them. But nevertheless, now matter how much talent they have or how much they might deserve to win, they unjustly lose every year without fail - Chris Daughtry, Melinda Doolittle, David Archuleta, Adam Lambert... and now, (I predict) Crystal Bowersox. Just my opinion. So, congrats Lee fans on your next American Idol! Hope you enjoy the Nickelback/Hinder/Daughtry copycat album he's sure to make.
I thought that exactly. I just recently read an article about Lee's back story about how he was a troubled kid in high school who knew that he was meant for music. It was touching in a way looking back how far he started to where he is now. I'll ways root for him no matter what, win or lose.
If you know ANYTHING about Lee's back story, you would know that this song was the PERFECT song choice for Lee and he totally connected with it!!
LEE FTW Haters!!!
