For years, most people naturally assumed that the reason Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was a combination of drunkenness and ego. But apparently, there’s much more to the story.
Gawker has obtained audio of an alleged Kanye West ranting while out to dinner with friends at the Corner Bistro in New York’s West Village following the controversial music awards ceremony. Though Gawker has been unable to confirm that the audio is West, it certainly fits in with his publicly self-involved persona. The rant involves West’s erratic justifications for interrupting Swift during her acceptance speech, saying, “Because I wrote my ['Run This Town'] verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé!” Of course, West also finds other things to rant about, such as not being asked to perform at the ceremony over Pink, and claiming that his mother, Donda West, “died for this fame s***.”
