Laverne Cox Will Be Madame Tussauds’ First Transgender Wax Figure (VIDEO)

Just in time for the third season of Orange is the New Black (which is being released tomorrow, June 12) Laverne Cox has announced she is being immortalized in wax at Madame Tussauds.

Cox — who will be the first transgender wax figure in the museum — says her figure will be revealed at the end of the month in San Francisco during Pride Weekend.

Revealed the Emmy-nominated actress in statement:

I am so deeply honored to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy. When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary. It is my hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.

Added the wax museum about the monumental event:

Madame Tussauds announced Laverne Cox will join Madame Tussauds San Francisco in Fisherman’s Wharf as the first ever transgender figure in the long history of Madame Tussauds to celebrate Pride Month.

Madame Tussauds is proud to celebrate Ms. Cox’s outstanding achievements and the impact she has made through raising awareness and her stance on equality and inclusion within the LGBT community. Madame Tussauds is honored to represent Ms. Cox and her historic impact.
